This is a NAVAL SURFACE WARFARE CENTER CRANE DIV IN report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A163993. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: A 150 lb/day sub-scale plant has been demonstrated for the recovery of HMX and RDX from LX-14 and Composition A-3, respectively. This recovery process involves solubilizing the binder through the use of an acid or hot water/surfactant, then separating the explosive from the binder solution by centrifugation. The recovered HMX and RDX are of high purity at a high yield and have melting points comparable to pure HMX and RDX. This technology will allow for the recovery of valuable explosives, which may be reused for commercial or military applications.
