IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THIS PRODUCT!!!,

I advise you NOT to buy this CD for $99.99.
It is NOT as rare as mentioned above. Although I had a VERY difficult time tracking this CD through other stores (both public and online), I found the CD in high stock at http://www.varesesarabande.com. And.... this CD only costs 16.98! That's it! Not a friggin 100 bucks! When searching, be sure you enter "Recruit" and not "The Recruit," otherwise the search will yield no results. In case you're wondering, I am not a representative of Varese Sarabande records. Rather, I am a conscientious consumer and hate to see anyone get ripped off. I implore you to post a comment if my consumer advisory review was helpful to you. And let's see if the above-seller ends up reducing his price hahahahaha.

A recruit for a good score,

Here lies the sister score to Harry Gregson-Williams' Spy Game. Like Spy Game, The Recruit utilizes a heavy amount of synths with a symphony orchestra along side. The main theme is a 4 note motif for strings and piano that can be heard in "Main Title", "Talking Over Crabs", "Hijacked", "You're Going to Langley", "Nothing Is What It Seems", and "Target Is Burke." If you are curious as to what the theme sounds like, just listen to "The Emperior Is Dead" track from the soundtrack "Gladiator". Wait until the part when the emperor dies and you will hear a 4 note motif. That is the exact same theme that occurs throughout The Recruit. Klaus Badelt wrote additional music in "Gladiator", so that must have been his work. Additional thematic material is found in "To the Farm" and "CIA Training", which only exists in these 2 tracks. This theme too is based on 4 notes, but unfortunately does not develop into something that lasts. "Hijacked", "A Bug For Breakfast", "Nothing Is What It Seems", and "Target Is Burke" contains some exciting action music with lots of synth rhythms and pounding percussion. This score is much different from Badelt's previous works, such as The Time Machine and K-19: The Widowmaker. This is most similar to Spy Game and is recommended, even though the first listen through won't leave much of an impression. Listen to this score a few times and it will begin to grow on you.

4 Months Into 2003, And This Is The First Score Worth Buying,

I Am A Huge Fan Of Movie Scores. In Fact, They Are Practically The Only Music I Listen To. The score to the exciting film The Recruit by Klaus Badelt instantly caught my ear when I viewed the film. I instantly went out and bought the cd, and I haven't stopped listening to it since. It is fast, fun, and exciting, and it mixes synths along with a symphony orchestra. Imagine taking the movie score to an epic film (a la John Williams) and mixing it with tecnho. The score to The Recruit is what you would get. It is now 4 months into 2003, and this is the only score from this year I have bought, and to be honest, I am glad I did. It is well worth your time and money, and for all fans of movie scores, or for those who like techno-esque/symphony music, this is for you.

Badelt's Best,

Out of the three soundtracks that you are able to purchase by Klaus Badelt (The Time Machine, K-19 The Widowmaker, and now The Recruit) The Recruit takes the most interesting and rewarding route. Like in his other two works you have an amazing orchestra piece with its own unique blend. In The Time Machine you have the wonderful vocals found in the tracks; Eloi, Stone Language, and Godspeed. In K-19 The Widowmaker you have rich Russain strings with chorus in G minor. With The Recruit you have a perfect blend between computer generated sounds (following the lines of techno.) and orchestra. Like in The Time Machine you have prominate paino playing the theme but with much more sucess in The Recruit. Many regard The Time Machine as Klaus Badelt's greatest work. Usually this is made by people who only own that soundtrack (and sometimes not even that, I am referring to those who steal music through the means of internet pirating). I own all three of his works so I can voice my opions. The Recruit is slightly shorter than Badelts other works, but it is quality not quanity that matters. The person who reviewed this CD first said in his closing statement that over time The Recruit soundtrack grows on you, for me within the first ten seconds of Main Title I was completely hooked. It is that good, all you need to do is keep an open mind.

i got this cd because I love Badelt and Zimmerand the like, and was EXTREMELY disappointed. There are no themes, few exciting moments, and little that I found interesting. If you liked Gladiator, theTime Machine, The Rock, Peacemaker, and Pirates of the Caribbean, don't expect to find more stuff like that in here.

Badelt's going on synths,

It's not bad. Maybe too simle in some ways, but it's tasty, precise. Piano in combination with synth rhythms goes well. When I saw the movie, first my attention was on the score, because it was unusual for me. Good, not the best. Badelt's best still is Time Machine.

Whenever a Media Ventured artist does the score for of these slick, potboiling blockbuster movies, fans like myself are immediatly interested. On the CD, however, the music is quite drab, quite slow, and quite boring. It picks up during the seven-minute A BUG FOR BREAKFAST, but the swelling of the previously-lethargic electronic lollygagging into restrained "chase" music has no catchy beat, no suspense or drive. In other, nothing of what makes action music fans like action music. The films finale provides an intersting climax to the score, and the last track is the only one I had any overwhelming desire to listen to again. It supports the film immeasurably though. THE RECRUIT has a kind of drab/slick oppostional tone to it as well, and in the musical realm, it sounds too restrained, too artificial, and we realize that supports the film but the nature of the film itself doesnt allow the music to do anything profound or rousing. I borrowed it from a friend and listened to it on and off for a few weeks, everyday, fully aware of a score's tendancy to sound better and better upon repeat listens, but I still have come away with little to mention. If you can't get ahold of it dirt cheap, just sit back and appreciate how well it supports a film that could have been a total wreck without it |
