5.0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece in noise
First I thought this would be a grind/noise album (since GBN is a grind band), but grind only affects the length of the album. The first song is a live recording, 23 minutes long, and for the rest 30 songs there is about 26 minutes...so: unbeliavably brutal noise bursts in songs mostly not longer than 30-40 seconds. The songs are often mixed with probably the rawest...

1.0 out of 5 stars if you want to throw away money,no choice could be better
First:who said that grind-core has to be only noise?that surely is what this japanese band is thinking.Every one could have made this album, since playing instruments without knowing how is what they wanted. So if you like listening to about 55 identical songs in about 25 minutes go ahead. growwtatatatbaaa:that is how it sounds.

5.0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece in noise, October 8, 1999

The songs are often mixed with probably the rawest vocals I've heard in my life so far (even sicker than on Gore Beyond Necropsy's "Noise A Go-Go!"). So if you are into brutal noise with grunting vocals, this should be your choice!

To bad california spaws morons (see 2 below), Did you happen to notice that it was a split with Merzbow? one of the most well known noise artists today, I guess not. If you want rock go buy Pink Floyd or go embrace Victory Records or something... Don't diss **it you don't understand holmes.... This record is amazing (Check out their first one also, even though merzbow don't be showin' his face, it still slices butter like a hot knife. I love Cam. Go Buy NOW!

4.0 out of 5 stars rectal anarchy re-appraised, April 28, 2002
This review is from: Rectal Anarchy (Audio CD)
rectal anarchy sees merzbow indulging his guitar-ish tendencys with a japanese grindcore act i am unfamiliar with- gore beyond necropsy.
This is not the merzbow of 1930. the music is not rigidly structured, but for sheer noise assault it is one of the best. Insanely piledriving slabs of raw noise will vie to engulf your hi fi in a torrent of filthy distorted barbwire agression, you will intimidate your neighbourhood.you can even make out a vocal in there somewehere, but most of the sound sources are strictly unidentifiable. The 1st track is a long protracted battering, followed by a series of miniature peices, probably modelled after hardcore punks condensed song format. dont let the track names put you off if you're squeemish, this is a quality merzbow release.
Strongly recomended for the serious noise enthusiast or the noise virgin.

3.0 out of 5 stars A noise take on punk, July 17, 2000
This review is from: Rectal Anarchy (Audio CD)
I think the most noticeable thing about this release is that it seems to be meant as Merzbows way to bastardize punk....or maybe it's a bizarre "tribute" to it. The noise is typical for Merzbow at this time period, with the first track being over 20 minutes a la "Venereology". Most of the tracks that follow are very short blasts of noise, some even a few seconds in length, making it the wierd take on punk. Overall a decent listen, although I don't hear much of the Gore Beyond Necropsy influence, besides the occasional distorted vocal growls.

3.0 out of 5 stars cd lacks vinyl cover, December 6, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Rectal Anarchy (Audio CD)
I own the 12in of this album and I must recommend that anyone who is thinking of getting this album try their hardest to find the vinyl version. The cover photo for the 12in, a huge b/w closeup of an (...) that is colored pink gives this album the most beautiful cover I have ever seen. It is worth owning it just to leave out by your stereo. The CD lacks this. I personally find this version of noise slightly boring. Merzbow has done better music. No one has produced a nicer cover.

2.0 out of 5 stars Whatever happened to Bustmonster?, November 7, 2000
This review is from: Rectal Anarchy (Audio CD)
Masami Akita has done some seriously fun punk over the years along with his noise stylings. In particular, Bustmonster, a collaboration with Hong Kong noizhead xper. xr. and a few others, is fantastically funny stuff. Charming, naive, thoroughly no-fi. Even the cover is xeroxed. Pure DIY punk/noise.

That said, this release is painful. I love Merzbow, but even I find this relatively unlistenable. The internal rhythms and undercurrents that hallmark Merzbow's wall-o-noise-era material are absent here, and the sense of whimsy that drove projects like Bustmonster is also absent. One wonders, on occasion, if the recording equipment was actually broken. This is noise to sleep to.

This review is from: Rectal Anarchy (Audio CD)
I'm gore boyond necropsy fan, and i've taken a slight interest in merzbow. so i naturally thought this release would kick some ace. well i listened to it and i was like, Wow this is quite possibly the most annoying and dissapointing album ever. I guess i was expecting something more creative and smashing as opposed to just weak and annoying like my grandma. I gave it 4 stars becuase it's great for stereo alarm clocks in other people steros.
