More About the Author
Judy's first memory of sewing is making a rag doll and doll clothes as a child. She took her first sewing lessons in 1964 but didn't start quilting until 1987. Her first quilting lessons were through the local adult school. After a move to California's far north coast, she began making landscape quilts.
Her first book, Simply Landscapes, was published in 1994. Her second book, the best-seller "9-Patch Pizzazz: Fast, Fun & Finished in a Day", was published in 2006, followed by "Rectangle Pizzazz" in 2008, both from C&T Publishing.
Judy loves teaching and feels fortunate to be making a living doing something she loves. Judy tries to add a new workshop every year because so many of her students are repeat customers. She is available to teach and lecture nationwide. Her love of people, travel, and fabric makes her an enthusiastic teacher! Kits are available for purchase in many workshops. Visit her website at www.judysisneros.com. She lives in Rocklin, California, near Sacramento.

The author, Judy Sisneros, provides a brief overview of choosing fabrics and colors, discusses the tools you'll need, and throughout the book are helpful hints for making your quilting time much more fun, not to mention easier. The directions are easy to follow and the colorful photographs will keep the quilter on track. At the back of the book are easy directions for finishing a quilt. Follow them carefully and you'll be thrilled with what you've accomplished
If you quilt at all, you will have a `stash'. If you're like me, your stash could stock a quilting store. The patterns in Rectangle Pizzazz easily fit the stash of fabric you have on hand.
My personal favorite is "Curves Around the Rectangle." It's my first project from the book, and I have stacks of Asian fabric I've been aching to use. The focus fabric is going to be difficult as I have so many to choose from. Well, I guess that means more than one of my daughters will be getting a new quilt. I'm not sure if I can actually start and complete the top in a day, but I'm going to give it a good try.
Another fun quilt to try is "Rectangles on Point." The pattern catches the eye, the directions are easy to follow, and it actually looks like it is a fun, fast, quilt top to make.
Armchair Interviews says: If you love to quilt and are limited by time, Rectangle Pizzazz: Fast, Fun & Finished
If you fall in love with a topic or large scale print then it stays in your stash waiting, NOW is the time to pull it out and USE it. I'm trying to chew through my stash and get projects completed that will make great gifts that appear as though I spent FAR MORE TIME and ENERGY. Pick this book up and have a couple girl friends over for a mini workshop day!
Rectangle Pizzazz, on the other hand, shows quilts made by just the author and two other quilters. I get the feeling that they cranked out just enough quilts to make a book, with the resulting lack of breadth and depth. The instructions have a "sketchbook" feel, like ideas still in the process of development. There ARE good ideas here, but the "just hatched" aspect makes it harder for a quilter to use them. One pattern in particular, "To the Nines," should have been edited out completely. But when you're pushing a book into print, you don't have that option. What a disappointment!
This book doesn't have it same feel as the first one. It feels more rushed, and less like something she enjoyed writing, as compared to the first one. It wasn't as creative, and her fabric choices were less than stellar. It isn't bad, but not up to her capabilities.
I hope she comes out with more books. I know she has the creativity, I just hope she is given the time to write up to her own standards in the future.
