Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Though most remix albums tend to rework an artist's music to the point of unrecognizability, Recubed retains much of the sleepy, understated charm of Minekawa's 1997 release, Roomic Cube. Rather than obscuring the loopy spirit of her Casio-toned originals, the six remixers here--Sukia's DJ Me/DJ You, Trans Am, and Portastatic among them--sound like collaborators with a shared affection for old-style electronics and new-wave easy listening à la Stereolab. Pulsars' "Fantastic Cat" squeezes Minekawa's hurdy-gurdy hook through a cheesy synth, warping it into something hazily reminiscent of Depeche Mode's "Just Can't Get Enough." Buffalo Daughter (who produced Roomic) pumps the gentle "Klaxon! (A New Type)" into a rocking dance-floor anthem by marrying Minekawa's airy voice to the rubbery "White Lines" bass line. Incorporating everything from disco to French pop to psychedelia, this 24-minute disc makes the most of its idiosyncratic source material. --Erik Pedersen

3.0 out of 5 stars loops away, January 15, 2006
This review is from: Recubed (Audio CD)
a remix of tracks from the Romic Cube album. some interesting involvement here from Trans Am and Portastatic (whose remixes are most distinct and take the original to a new level). and the usual suspects...Buffalo Daughter, Dj You Dj Me. there are not too many surprises here...if you liked the Roomic Cube album, you'll find some small comforts here in these sonic re-workings.

1.0 out of 5 stars Who Requested This Album?, July 22, 2005
This review is from: Recubed (Audio CD)
Was there a huge public outcry for a "recubing" of of Roomic Cube? This chit sounds like the soundtrack to explosive diarrhea. The type you find on occasion in porta-toilets in national parks.

If I could I would slap the cute off this broad for tricking me into listening to the remix of 1.66666666666666666666666666666666666. I liked the original version. This mickey mouse garbage is going to get someone hate mailed. Word.
