Evocative stringplay thats stark, seductive and shamanesque., July 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Recurring Dream (Audio CD)
A lovely album of deeply soulful and richly harmonic music. If you find the sound of dreamy, celtic harp(actually this instrument is a form of zither) a liitle passe, then allow yourself to be touched by the hypnotic, incandescent sound of ancient Finland. To dissect this recording into 'tracks' is to tamper with its whole beauty. This is liberating, sensual music that dives deeply into 'another' realm(of ancestoral spirits and the unconcious mindscape), managing always to take you with it! Reflective, meditative and haunting, BUT never light weight. The songs seem to maintain a delicate balance between structure and formlessness that never causes one to feel lost or unsatisfied(or bored!) There is no production 'overkill' evident here,Grey (solo) remains uncompromising in her artistic vision.I challenge anyone not to be moved by this lyrical and compelling tour de force. Please Sylvan, bring your mystical and charming Kantele to Australia.(but for the moment this exquistely executed CD will have to suffice!).So do yourself a favour and let this hidden gem become one of YOUR perrenial favourites, like it has been mine for over ten years.... For this ain't 'merely' entertainment, this is truely ART...

Relaxing yoga music, January 16, 2012
This review is from: Recurring Dream (Audio CD)
Very relaxing. I do yoga to this CD. It's truly beautiful, hypnotic and complex. I am amazed that one musician can make so many sounds from one instrument. A true escape on this winter day.
