This book is an excellent resource for anyone interested in the recycling process, the state of the industry, the options available, the impact and importance of recycling and anything else connected with recycling.

While I'm not sure who the target audience is, I can say that if you have been struggling to find a comprehensive and authoritative resource on recycling for whatever reason then this is certainly for you.

The books is 254 pages of invaluable information. The introductory chapter (16 pages of text plus stats etc) by Lucy Siegle sets the tone of the book: tons of information all set out beautifully.

The book is divided into 6 sections and 16 case studies. The 6 sections cover, respectively, paper, glass, metal, plastic, household and compost. Each section details the process involved in recycling that material, the costs and benefits involved and so on.

The case studies look at projects around the world in an effort to demonstrate best practices, unique ideas and controversial issues from local, grassroots efforts to massive legislative maneuvers. (e.g. Construction workshop in Dakar; Cuba: no waste; It's in the bag - Ireland's plastic bag tax; From crade to grave: The nappy debate.)

The book also features a number of lists of resources (physical and web-based, regional and international, governmental and non-governmental) that is alone worth the price of purchase.

Okay I'm done. As you can tell I'm quite thrilled by the book; I'd been looking for something like this for a while and it's turned out to be everything I'd wanted and more.
