If you have extra buttons or any small objects, Recyclo-gami suggests you could glue them on to bobby pins to wear in your hair. You can even use duct tape and bubble wrap to make wallets and purses. Kids can create jewelry from brightly colored papers or pages from magazines by turning them into beads using a toothpick! And I loved the idea of taking an empty chocolates box and turning it into a jewelry box, complete with tiny compartments perfect for holding each piece.
If you have old linens or clothes that you're thinking of throwing out, you can cut them into strips, then braid them into a long strand. With the braid, you coil it into coasters. I want to try this to make big rugs with all our old clothes! All those tin cans you have can have a new life when you cover them with felt and use them to hold pencils or other items. And, there's so many fun ways to decorate them!
I thought the most original idea in the book was "melting" CD's and DVD's in the oven on top of other objects to transform them into bowls that can hold small objects. Very inventive! Gluing faux flowers and trims onto old, outdated lampshades makes a brand new statement for the bedroom! Recyclo-gami also gave the ingenious suggestion of turning cereal boxes into scrapbooks. Recyclo-gami: 40 Crafts to Make your Friends GREEN with Envy! is filled with great ideas to assist you in recycling old items instead of throwing them out!
