5.0 out of 5 stars A powerful mix of old and new.
This CD is a radiant mix of ancient rhythms and modern instrumentation similar to Cuscos' APURIMAC III. Using American Indian chants, natural sounds, Spanish guitar and new age electronics, it covers all moods. I found the music to be mellow, triumphant, eerie and strikingly beautiful . I love every track.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful, Moving, Stirring, Haunting, June 26, 1999

This is the most powerful and moving Native American/Contemporary blend CDs I have listened to yet. It is far better than Cusco's light and airy Apurimac III. It touchs your inner emotions. It is one of my favorite CDs.

If you are thinking about getting into Native American music, start here. This group is not only original, but each song on this cd is very different. They can move you fast, slow you down, pick you up, or ease you mind. If you are a Native American cd collector, this one is a must for your collection. Buy it and enjoy it over and over again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gather round the fire now!, June 2, 2001

Hard to believe this is the product of some folks from Austria..in fact, this could well be the last item from them as I understand, as the main brain behind this is now dead :( Really though, this is a wonderful statement of combining Plains Indian music and chants with some more western interpretation. I assume that a lot of it is authentic field recordings, complete with the crackle of flames and popping of coals in the fire and a huge thunderstorm that you better watch out for, as it will about blow yer speakers right out of the cabinet when it Kabooms!! Beautiful images of Indian civilisation are present in the soundscape, you feel like you were there for an hour or so. A really lovely armchair trip to the past, not in the same league as say R. Carlos Nakai, but very, very satisfying.

5.0 out of 5 stars For those who truly appreciate Native American culture..., March 22, 2006
This review is from: Red Sky Beat (Audio CD)
First of all, this entire CD tells a Dakota myth of creation - every track is part of the story...with that in mind, it makes perfect sense to have tracks that contain elements such as winds and fire crackling. If you are looking for something that is strictly music, don't buy this CD - there is plenty of other new age electronica to choose from.

If you enjoy going to pow-wows, and other Native American events, you will appreciate the detail put into this album. This isn't just a CD you pop into your car for background noise - this is a journey you become a part of.

I loved this album so much, when my son was being delivered into this world, we had this CD playing...I think track#6 was playing when he actually made his appearance...anyway, if you are trying to expose your children to different cultures and music, this is a good album to start with. My son is only 7 mos old now, but he loves listening to every track.

I have yet to find another album I enjoy as much as this one, for this particular genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars A seamless integration., January 12, 2009

Native American chant and musical sensibilities fused with remarkably well crafted ambient electronica integrate to form a timeless, emotion-laden sound. A must add to any Ambient World Electronica collection. I've not run across anything like it in my exploration of this and other genres.

I can't claim to know much about the "mechanics"of writing and actually making music, but I really enjoy this CD.It transports me to another "world",beyond our modern confusing babbel of daily noises in this fast-tracking life in which we find ourselves!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great music - annoying sound effects, May 27, 2004

This review is from: Red Sky Beat (Audio CD)
This CD starts off so well (tracks 1 - 6). The music is smooth and well-put together with a blend of Native American voices, flutes and modern intrumentation. Deterioration is a good word to use when it comes to the last half of the album. Tracks 7, 8 and 9 are nothing but noise - no music at all. I haven't even entirely made it through them because they are irritating at best. The last track, #10 is great (except for a few sound effects). Again, it's music and it's good.
Listening to the first part of this album I get the impression that Blue Chip Orchestra is talented and capable of putting out some great music. Why the noise? I have to wonder. Did they run out of musical ideas? I have been waiting for a (improved )second album but so far there isn't one. Too bad. Blue Chip Orchestra has so much potential.
