5.0 out of 5 stars Better, not quite perfect
I love Red Vs. Blue. I love it to death. I already owned the original five seasons on DVD, but I was still thrilled when the Remastered version came out. It really is much better now that the pictures fill the screen, and they're sharper, too! Even better for someone with limited shelf space, this time they put all 6 DVDs (5 seasons and a bonus disc) into only two...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Product - Poor Packaging
Red Versus Blue, full of outstanding content as usual. Lots of great extras full of Caboose and Sarge. Three stars because of extremely poor packaging. The DVD case is very fragile and its difficult to remove the DVD's from the case. The DVDs are made cheaply, and apparently break easily. My first shipment of this set arrived with a broken DVD, and the next shipment still...

5.0 out of 5 stars Better, not quite perfect, July 22, 2010
This review is from: Red vs. Blue The Blood Gulch Chronicles: The First Five Seasons (DVD)
I love Red Vs. Blue. I love it to death. I already owned the original five seasons on DVD, but I was still thrilled when the Remastered version came out. It really is much better now that the pictures fill the screen, and they're sharper, too! Even better for someone with limited shelf space, this time they put all 6 DVDs (5 seasons and a bonus disc) into only two thin boxes, rather than the huge box the old complete set came in. So now I have space to buy the next several seasons when they come out.

There's only one problem I have, and its the same problem I had with the old set... except for Lopez's Spanish dialogue, and the 5th season, there are no captions/subtitles. My girlfriend is both hard of hearing and sensitive to loud noises, and with all the yelling and the radio/helmet speech effects, she has a hard time following what's happening. Makes it hard to watch it together... or at night with the volume on low after she goes to sleep.

I'd take off a half-star for this, if I could, but I can't so I won't.

Nevertheless, all said, I'm glad I bought it. (Now, on to the "Recollection" 3 DVD set!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Red vs Blue at its Finest, October 25, 2010

You can't go wrong here. Red vs Blue was one of the best Machinima's I ever watched. To think I used to watch them at 360p and then 480p. I remember watching the older, non - remastered versions where the cross-hair is still present and you actually are missing 1/2 the image (they had to crop out the arms/weapon of the camera man!). The remastered set is fantastic. The video looks great in widescreen, with drastically improved visuals compared to the original version we have all come to love. The textures now look crystal clear and the image takes up the entire screen rather than half. The audio has been improved as well, on top of some improved visual. Any Red vs Blue fan won't be disappointed. Any Halo fan won't be either. If you are a gamer you can't miss this show especially in its remastered form on DVD

5.0 out of 5 stars Great deal, and the best possible RvB experience, September 12, 2010

This review is from: Red vs. Blue The Blood Gulch Chronicles: The First Five Seasons (DVD)
I love Red vs. Blue and have been watching it since the show started. This box set is really the show in its best form possible, a full frame version of the show with no crappy letterboxing. I owned the first four seasons on DVD but this is just so much better of an experience. I was not having the $45 dollar price tag at [...] because I owned the DVDs already, but at $30 on amazon I could not go wrong. A huge savings from Amazon (as usual) and the item arrived promptly and in perfect condition.

My only gripe is, like others have said, the packaging is a bit weak. The DVDs are in those spindles tighter than any other DVD I have had before, and I really fear I'm going to break them pulling them out sometimes.

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING SERIES-AMAZING BOX SET, October 13, 2010

This is an amazing series, it's very well written and very well made. The Box set is good and comes in six DVDs, I really like the box set. What I like about this series is how the comedy is just brilliant and makes me laugh-out-loud, better than most sitcoms or comedy series. Also how they managed to use many sources from the video game, and they built a story around the effects they could do with the video game. Great characters, memorable scenes and jokes, RVB is amongst the best thing ever to be put on DVD

Smaller box with 6 disc = Awesome; and the remastered version is alot better, even if you own the original, get the remastered too, its great to have both!

Improvements: Full Screen; HD; and the "camera" doesnt have an on-screen aiming sight (as in the original alot of scenes you noticed it)

and the price isn't too bad either =)

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't Believe It's Been 8 Years (No Spoilers), June 14, 2011

In honor of Red vs Blue Season 9 starting tonight, I'll give people reasons to experience the beginning. This set is remastered, and it looks amazing. I remember when it was shot in a super letterboxed screen and the little reticule in the middle, but series reminds me of a movie rather than a web series. The hours the guys spent recreating each screen definitely paid off. The dialogue of this show is the meat and potatoes of the show, (with action scenes sprinkled throughout the journey.) Every character has hilarious lines, even minor characters like Wyoming, Junior, Sister, Vic, even Vic's answering machine to name a few. Also everyone has had awesome moments throughout the series, anyone remember Donut's surprisingly good grenade throw? Or inside Caboose's reality challenged mind? The bickering relationships between all the characters are spectacular. Sarge, Grif, Simmons and Donut may hate each other, but to them there's nothing worse a Blue soldier, and same goes for the Blues.

The plot is a little odd near the end, but it they make it work. The Blood Gulch Chronicles has comedy more as it's priority, where Recollection balanced comedy and a deeper integrated plot. Blood Gulch is where everything started, and is where old and new fans can enjoy all the crazy shenanigans in one place.

5.0 out of 5 stars Red vs Blue - Remastered!, December 17, 2010

This review is from: Red vs. Blue The Blood Gulch Chronicles: The First Five Seasons (DVD)
Red vs blue has a special place in my heart. The problem was that I couldn't comfortably watch it on my shiny new HDTV without the feeling that i'm looking at it through a rear-view mirror. The 'old' DVDs I have weren't only letterboxed from the limitations they encountered with the original Halo engine on the Xbox, but also the dvds themselves weren't formatted for widescreen viewing. Thankfully, they went back and remastered the whole series for modern HD veiwing. Scene-for-scene, they painstakingly reshot every scene to the letter. The first thing I noticed was the shiny new high-resolution picture (i'm assuming they used the PC version.) After that, I saw that the head movements were more in sync with the voice acting (not the other way around, they didn't re-capture any of the voices).
After I watched the seasons, I got curious about the special features. Did they remaster the PSAs? Well, sort of. They stretched them to fit the 720x480 aspect ratio, and they centered the image between the top and bottom of the screen. It made the PSAs at least viewable on my TV, but not as shiny as the main series. Some of the special features on the 4th disc recieved the same treatment, but the live-action spots and Halo 3 features (such as the Grifball demonstration) were left pretty much unaltered.

If you don't already have the first 5 seasons, get this one for sure. If you already have the first box set, get this if you have an HDTV, your eyes will thank you.

Red Vs. Blue the Blood Gulch Chronicles is an amazing online cartoon made through the hit video game Halo. For those fans of the original game and those unfamiliar alike will enjoy this is hilarious comedy by its originality along with its supurb ingenuity. Using the basic physics of the game only, this story spans across worlds to deliver one of the funniest phenomenon this century. You and your friends will be laughing for years to come, quoting and referencing the once in a lifetime lines this work has to offer.
