Editorial Reviews

From Scientific American

Red, Blue & Yellow Yarn is a sensitive tale about a young boys' strained relationship with his very proper grandmother. How will his Bubby react to the mischief he stumbles into? Surely, she's never acted like he did--or has she? By sharing long ago events with her grandson, Bubby makes it clear that forgiveness is the key to healing relationships and letting love grow between people of all ages. What better way to encouraged good middos such as judging other favorably and forgiving their mistakes? Beautiful full-color illustrations bring a heartwarming story to life. Highly recommended reading for preschool through 3rd grade. Perfect for bedtime storytelling too!

From The New Yorker

"Red, Blue and Yellow Yarn, a Tale of Forgiveness" by Miriam R. Kosman, illustrated by Valeri Gorbachev, also has a local connection. This Hachai Publishing Book, $9.95, is edited by former Pittsburgher Dina Rosenfeld. It is the story of crime and punishment (although on a much lesser scale!). The story tells of young Donny, who must be on his best behavior since his Bubby (grandmother) has come for a visit, and who can't seem to stay out of trouble. When Donny finds his grandmother's red, blue and yellow yarn lying on the bed, it's just too tempting not to play with it. The yarn, as you can imagine, gets all tangled up and Donny's mother is livid. But his Bubby helps him clean up the mess, relating a tale of her own "crime and punishment." It seems that when Bubby was a young girl. . .she broke a jar of nuts that her grandmother had cracked for hours to make the Passover cake. And, Donny's grandmother continues, her grandmother helped her because --you guesses it-- she, too, had a committed a "crime" when she was a child. Read the book to find out the particulars. "Red, Blue & Yellow Yarn" is a fun "spin" on an old tale of forgiveness.

5.0 out of 5 stars A worthwhile addition to any child's library, November 8, 1998

This review is from: Red Blue & Yellow Yarn: A Tale of Forgiveness (Hardcover)
This charming story is one of my children's favorites. It contains lots of important lessons: it's okay to make mistakes... grownups were once silly kids too... grandmas are very special people...
