Well done story/movie. Seemed realistic. Plenty of suspense, action. A nail biter. Will recommend to my friends. Have watched the movie several times.

This was a great movie with Richard Gere and I have to say his respect for and acknowledge of relations with The People's Republic of China really made a great movie to watch. this was a time when the US was just beginning to do business with China and how The Chinese even wast to see a better relations with the world. A movie that will kep you guessing what really happened that night.

Red Corner shows what can occur in the courts of China. It emphasizes the need for change.
In the movie, Gere's character has to go through an uphill battle to prove his innocence. He is told that he is guilty before he has even given a chance to argue in trial. The end result of the movie proves satisfying.
Giovanni's review is inaccurate. Gere's acting is good. His character is not a common business man. Giovanni must have missed part of the movie because it is shown that Gere's character studied law at Harvard. His character requests for a English translation of the Chinese laws and studies them. He uses his intelligence to figure out what can be done in the courtroom, but learns that the laws that he read about don't stand for much.

Although Thomas Newman is a brilliant composer, if you like oriental sounds (Tak Matsumoto, R. Sakamoto, etc.) or even if you like oriental themes (Last Samurai), then, the sounds and the sonic landscapes in this album will be a delight. Also, it's quite hard to find, however, quite worth it. It doesn't end up being as lovely as the Last Samurai OST for instance, yet, themes like main them or Shen Yuelin must not be overseen.

I love Richard Gere, but this movie is very intense and shows how prisoners are treated in China. It also gives you an appreciation of the "politics" involved in foreign countries. Have a lot of "reading" to do, to understand what they are saying in some places, but mostly very self-explanatory.
Not a really romantic film.
Keeps you guessing as to "who done it?"

Gere finds himself without rights in a foreign country and being framed for murder. Through diplomatic confusion, he ends up working with a Chinese female attorney, who is searching for meaning in her career and exploring the concepts of loyalty and sticking up for justice-the movie also explores her feelings for her father who didn't fair well, going through the Cultural Revolution.
