I recommend this game for anyone who loves the open sandbox style games. I think it is safe to say that it is like a combination of Grand Theft Auto and the Wild West. You can go around and explore the vast landscape of mountains, hills and plains of the US/Mexico border.

Your main character is John Marston, a former criminal gang member who is looking for, what the title says, redemption. The US Government have John's wife Abigail and son Jack in captivity and the only way for John to get them back is to help the government take down members of his former gang. As Marston, you can choose to be a good guy by helping out strangers and townspeople with various tasks such as capturing fugitives who rob stores or attackers of women on the streets. You can also choose to be a bad guy and just shoot innocent bystanders and loot dead bodies. Other tasks include hunting, horse breaking, fur trading, horseshoes, and poker.

Along with the main story, there is the Undead Nightmare campaign. The campaign takes place after Marston gets his family back and Uncle infects them with the Zombie virus. Marston searches around the area for a cure by killing zombies attacking the towns and performing various tasks needed to find a cure. It also adds a few game modes for Multiplayer.

This game is definitely one of the greater ones to come out over the last 5 years. If you like GTA, you should definitely give a try.

This particular iteration of Red Dead Redemption is the best value because it includes the add-ons/DLC as well.

Red Dead Redemption is a shooter that blends in elements typically featured in other genres and/or overlooked by shooters. If you're into grinding out achievements, stop reading reviews and buy this game - you'll love it. If you're not into grinding, that's cool too because there's plenty of story to keep you fully engaged without having to farm kills. There's a ton of mini-games within the game (including Texas Hold'em and BlackJack) that are pretty fun and the characters are surprisingly well developed. And as is the case with most games these days, you get to choose whether you play a good guy or a bad guy, and your choices impact the way the game plays.

Overall I give this game a 9/10.

I do not know what else to say other than this is the greatest game I have ever played. If you haven't play this by now, spend the $15-20 and buy and you will not be disappointed. The story is AMAZING, the graphics are out of this world, the game is easy to pick up and play and just sucks you in. There are many side missions to keep you playing for a long time. The Zombie add-on is just more icing on top of a double frosted cake, I wont spoil anything, just buy it already and thank me later!

If you like games, like westerns or just love good things, buy this game and you will not be disappointed.

If your one of the few people who never picked up Rockstar's mega-hit Red Dead Redemption last year then there's no excuse now! Red Dead Redemption (inspired by the movie "The Wild Bunch") is one of the most immersive, gorgeous and rewarding games out there. The story is intriguing, the main characters are memorable with John Marston being one of Rockstar's greatest protagonists, the action is endless, the controls are fluid and the multiplayer is addictive (breath of fresh air compared with all the fps multiplayers on the market). The gorgeous sandbox is teeming with life and loads of NPCs as well as plenty of side missions such as meeting unique strangers, clearing gang hideouts, completing challenges, all which help you to become the legend of the west. Plenty to pull you of blazing main trail of the story.

The GOTY edition is well worth the price if you have never brought or played the game. It is packed with everything that has previously been on the xbox live marketplace while the second disc contains the fantastic Undead Nightmare dlc add-on which the wild west is turned into an apocalyptic fight for survival against zombie hordes, it is well worth your time!

Like I said, this game is a must for anyone who is a fan of GTA or sandbox games in general it's a fantastic game... nuff said!

This is my favorite game! The world is huge and your character can travel anywhere and explore at leisure. The game mechanics are great. One of the main ways to get around is by horseback, and the feel of riding a horse is spot-on. Most of the controls are intuitive and/or easy to learn. You can follow the scripted story, play mini-games to fulfill certain objectives, or just ride around and enjoy the scenery. The story isn't super-special and the characters are somewhat stereotyped, but that is typical of most of the games out there right now, so I won't quibble about that.

I love how this game gives you the time to explore and do things without having to follow the storyline. Half the time I just ride around looking at the top-notch, gorgeous graphics of the world around me, or do some hunting. There is quite a bit of pelt and flora collecting, which is actually kind of fun. The mini-games are things like poker, blackjack and horseshoes, all fun!

I haven't even gotten to the Undead part of the game because I don't want it to end. This is the only game I have felt this way about. I think about it a lot and can't wait to play. If you like westerns, horses, shooting things and card games, you will love this game. It makes me wish that Rockstar would come out with some kind of ranching sim game or something, I would definitely buy that!

I can't recommend this game enough. My all time favorite!

Cons: Typical of these type of Rockstar games, they want to be a role player with an open world but the characters all follow a script. You can't speak to anyone outside a set plot point and when they do, they repeat themselves to a very annoying level. The game mechanics are not intuitive. The characters or his horse can't swim, so much for realism. The ability to code save points where ever you are, seems to be a lost ability by programmers so they games force you to repeat parts. lame,

Pros: The graphics are decent and the story while it starts slow a bit and absurd (a highly trained bounty hunter pulls his revolver on people pointing rifles at him and winds up shot, hmmm ya think?) it does get better, plus there are some side missions.

Seems like a lost opportunity to make a truly legendary in-depth game, not just GTA in the west. Being able to practice dueling would be really nice. Mulitplayer, eh, I could take it or leave it. Some of us interact with more than enough people on a daily basis and enjoy some escapism.

I got this game hoping it'd live up to all the hype, but alas, it wasn't so. For me, I have to be able to connect to the main character (after all, you're playing him/her for the majority of the game) but it was too difficult. No matter how nice of a character I played, like helping the nuns and getting back stolen wagons, John was always saying how he was a terrible person and blah blah blah. I also like games that tug more at my emotions, and only the event near the end really made me feel, well, anything throughout the entire game. I got bored halfway through, and only trudged on just to see how it'd end and haven't even touched Undead Nightmare that came with it.

This is hands down my favorite game. You can keep GTA, I much prefer the raw, dusty and dirty old west. This is a great story line with well developed characters. It's a Spaghetti Western on Steroids and the ending left me speechless. The replay value is very high as well as you can pick and choose missions and whether or not your going to be a hero or a bandit. I recommend this game for anyone that like shooters. Enjoy - The Sasquatch.
