I swear I am not from, nor do I know anyone from either company, but I have been using Dow's product for about 25 years now and it's great. I don't know what I would do without it.
This past fall though, I thought I'd try Red Devil's sealing product thinking it would be the same stuff but a little cheaper. What could be bad? Well, It smelled worse, would not stick to the windows, and one had to be a football linebacker to get the stuff out of the tube. This became a panic since I had just the one day allotted to get approximately 200 windows caulked up at my two rental houses. All of my tenants were notified that this was the day and I had done my warm up exercises (both mental and physical) the day before. I was burning mad. I tried to use the Red Devil, but could not get past the first tube. I had to throw it all down and run to the hardware store to get some DOW. Luckily, they had enough for me to do the job. I will say that the store that sold the Red Devil returned my money promptly without hassle. But! I will never sell me soul to the Devil again!

I have many odd - shaped windows. My windows have 1/4" gaps in place from years of settling. Eventually I'll refabricate the frames, but mean time this works. (My mother used the plastic windows with stick tape-- keeps the drafts out but destroys the woodwork). I had fabricated simple removable storms, but the gaps require something more. This year Ilm going to try using it outside for temp fix and will report how it stands up. I have NOT tried the similar DAP product, but this stuff has been a life-saver.

This is our second year using zip-away. Our 1890 condo in Boston is in need of newer windows, but until we can afford them, we use this product. It stop drafts from the windows and floors. In the spring it's very easy to remove and does not peel away any paint! It's a great product!!

Have used Dow silicone stuff for a couple of years without problems, but this stuff was on sale (and now I know why!). Followed all directions, but it went on ugly - yellow/gray color, did not form a bead but ran or glopped all over. Have since put house up for sale and knew I'd have to get this off before a showing, even though it's mid-winter. Had only coupe of hours notice for showing yesterday and nothing got this stuff off - wouldn't pull off (like Dow does), or in the few places it did pull off, it took the paint, too. No success, either, with heat, cold or adhesive remover. Finally resorted to scraping it out as best I could with dental pick, which damaged window frames (so I need to repair and repaint that) but most of it is still there. Looks horrible, still. And once I get it all out, I'm going to have to re-do with Dow for the rest of the winter. What a mess!

New Solvent-Free product available in New York state,
This review is from: Red Devil 0606 Zip-A-Way Removable Sealant, Clear, 10.1-Ounce (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have used the Zip a Way product for years, and while it was a tad difficult to use (it needed to be warmed), it has been a real money saver in buildings with old or historic windows. THIS review is about the NEW "SOLVENT-FREE FORMULA" The old product smelled like airplane cement and would give you a headache, so the new formulation is better in that respect. However, the new stuff is so light bodied that it is impossible to get a nice neat job out of it. If it's hidden behind the curtains it might be OK, but in any window that's exposed to public view, it looks like the kids went wild with cake frosting. This has all the hallmarks of a product that never went into the hands of any sort of product tester. We'll see next spring if it comes off properly...

Defective tube?,

I received this very promptly a couple of weeks ago. The stuff goes on like strawberry jam - just rolling and quite sticky - I'm wondering if I have a defective tube, as a friend of mine was very pleased with her results. I haven't taken the time to investigate further yet. Will update when I know the scoop.
