5.0 out of 5 stars Action packed and kid friendly!
As an owner of a "red dog" myself, I was naturally attracted to the title. As a teacher I decided to read it to my class. Five years later I'm still reading it to my class. What a winner! The kids beg for more at the end of each chapter. But best of all, the book teaches heartwarming lessons about family love and responsibility. The messages the book...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not for Children!!!!
I agree with others that have written negatively about this book. While the cover is enticing and appears innocent enough (which is maybe why I bought it), the story, is NOT appropriate for 8-10 year olds. Wallace goes over the top in giving a blow-by-blow description of a home invasion where 3 wanderers invade Adam's home and take him, his mother, and his sister...

This book kept 27 grade 4/5 students at the edge of their seat. There were so many favourite parts. Some comments that were said: "Reading a great book at the end of the day, make you want to come back tomorrow." "I don't want to go home yet, read some more." Upon seeing the schedule for the day, "Yes! We read Red Dog first." This story is fantastic to read aloud. The word exciting doesn't do it justice.

5.0 out of 5 stars As a class read aloud or literature study it's trememdous!, July 26, 1999
I have used this book in my grade four classroom for years. It never fails to get the same rave reviews from year to year. It is a wonderful novel with which to teach such literary elements as suspense, characterization, figurative language, and theme. The novel has several "discussable" themes to get students looking for reasons to support the feelings and actions of the characters.

One of my fourth grade students was moved enough by the story to seek out Bill Wallace's address and write to him. Undoubtedly the ultimate compliment to a very talented writer.

This book is an awesome and exciting book! This book takes place in the exciting woods. The people who live there are a very ordinary family. There is boy who is eleven and a little girl, which is five. They have a mom and a step dad named Sam. Adam, the boy, is put in charge of the house while Sam is gone. Now here is the exciting part. 5.0 out of 5 stars You have to read this book!, June 15, 1999
By A Customer
Red Dog was the best book I ever read. It was a simply must read book. Once I picked up I could not put it down. It was so good because it had lots of action. Another reason why it was so good is it had a good ending. Once I picked it up I could not put it down. Now it would be good if he makes a sequel.

Red Dog is a settlers point of view of how it was like to settle in the wild west. I liked this book because it grabs your attention in the first chapter and you can't stop reading. It is also very interesting because you never what is going to happen in the next paragraph. I think it should deserve a 5 star rating, it is also one of the best books I ever read.

This was a really great book. One reason I liked this book was that it always keep me on my toes.I really liked the part where
the guys held Adams family hostage. That helped the book a lot.
I really think everyone should read it.If I rated this on a scale of one to ten I would rate it a 10.You should write more of these kinds of books.
