This thing will suck a 25 lb. propane tank dry in about an hour. The only complaint I have is that sometimes the flame goes out, especially right after starting it up. I'm not sure why. I think in some instances I had it in too close to the weeds and ground and it was actually burning all the oxygen up in a small area around the head, so the flame went out. Be careful with this flamer... it can be very dangerous! For smaller jobs, I'd recommend the 100,000 BTU "weed dragon" version. It uses less gas and you're not as likely to set yourself on fire.

I tried using in on the invasive Cogongrass I have growing. That stuff would always come back shortly after I burned it. It didn't matter if I just lightly hit it with the flame or burned it to a crisp... that stuff is resilient!

If you want a burner to last on a tank all day, this is not what you want. This will drain a standard grill tank dry in less than an hour. Why? Because it's the hottest burner you can find! It's amazing. It will burn elk weed into dust. You can control the output with the trigger so you can try to conserve gas but it's too much fun to run wide open.

This made the perfect father's day gift. Made in the USA and really well built. AAA+++

The Red Dragon VT 3-30 SVC 500,000 BTU was an excellent buy. Being that I allow my chickens to free range, this was a practical decision. As soon as the Red Dragon was delivered, I couldn't wait to get started. My 12 year old son assembled the torch and I was ready to fire those weeds. The 20 lb tank I attached the Red Dragon to lasted longer than I expected; about 6 hours and was able to cover two large areas. The squeeze valve made a difference even though I had the torch squeezed most of the time. Depending on the weed coverage, burning the weeds with the Red Dragon does take time, be patient. Heating up the ground does encourage other growth to develop but regular maintenance will help elimiate the year after year process. Unwanted weeds or grass gone almost instantly and in some areas it was better than liquid weed killer.

I bought this product (Red Dragon VT 3-30 SVC 500,000BTU) to melt snow, but it doesn't work for that. It claims to put out 500,000 BTUs, but a large grill is only about 75,000 and puts out at least this much. I expected to be able to melt significant snow, but have a typical propane tank empty in an hour. After an hour, I had gotten no where and the tank still felt full. I checked all the usual things such as that the valve on the tank and unit were fully opened, there was no obstruction in the hose, etc. It definately does not put out anywhere near 500,000 BTUs.

Don't buy this as a snow melter, but it would be great for toasting marshmellows.

I purchased this item mainly to melt ice. It is difficult to believe, but it does a very poor job at that. It is a waste of propane to try to melt anything other than snow. It performs decently on weeds and brush, but it needs to already be half dead. It is great for starting brush piles. It is a pretty expensive toy for that though. Don’t set the bar too high on you expectations for this unit.
