Valerie Steele is Acting Director of the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City and editor of Fashion Theory: The Journal of Dress Body, and Culture. She is the author of many books, including the Rizzoli titles Handbags: A Lexicon of Style, Shoes: A Lexicon of Style, and Women of Fashion: Twentieth-Century Designers. Her other books include Fifty Years of Fashion: New Look to Now, China Chic: East Meets West, Paris Fashion: A Cultural History, and Fetish: Fashion, Sex, and Power. She lives in New York City.
