Whereas the band's self-titled 2004 Estrus debut showcased these 'Bama boys' tattered tri-guitar raucous rock blaze, "Red Dust Rising" reaches deeper down into their southern gospel roots with songs about love, heartbreak, friendship, and life in the new rising south. If your recipe for Rock is a spicy mix of southern fried Stones circa Let It Bleed & Exile On Mainstreet thrown in with some Skynard country soul and Detroit grit, get cooking. Serve with Drive by Truckers and Dead String Brothers for a complete Beggers Banquette.

4 1/2! The Dexateens have put out a lot of really strong albums, but this seems to be the one I go back to most often. I don't think the Stones comparison is really appropriate. The Stones may have dabbled in Southern-rock, countryish territory. This is much more firmly grounded in that tradition. Drive-By Truckers is probably a better comparison. The songwriting is surprisingly strong, and each song is delivered with energy and sincerity. This is a really good album from start to finish.

..I am enchanted with this band, I don't know who they are, where they come from, but I know that when I push Play and this CD is on it sounds like a really cool moment from your favorite Classic Rock station...A total breeze coming out of your speakers...very talented and refreshing The Dexateens!
