Easy to read and very well writtten,
This review is from: Red Eagle (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this book. It is more about Andrew Jackson than Red Eagle but it still worth the time. It is really easy to read and I was finished with it in short order. This is a good in between book.

Red Eagle vs. Old Hickory,

This review is from: Red Eagle and the Wars with the Creek Indians of Alabama (Paperback)
This is a great book for anyone interested in Andrew Jackson, Alabama history or just a good read. I started it about 1:00 p.m., took a short break for dinner and finished it before 9:00. It is hard to put down. The book reads like a novel, and that in fact is what it may be. I am not knowledgeable enough to comment on its historic accuracy, but it should be noted that that some of the details, paricularly about Red Eagle, are at variance with accounts of 20th Century historians.
The author juxtaposes Red Eagle, said to be the great leader of the Creek Nation, with Old Hickory. It is difficult to ascertain which of the two men he has the most respect for. If the book is to be taken as a history book, it has a weakness in that it lacks an index. It does contain many quotes, perhaps too many. A reader has to wonder if many of the author's assertions are unattributed quotes. Maybe five stars are too many. But it was difintely, worth what it cost through Amazon and the time taken in reading it. |
