Book Description

This is the third and final installment in the Alex Cave “Energy” saga, and it offers the biggest set of challenges he has yet to face.

The island was obviously of volcanic origin. From a distance, the island appeared as a black pustule in an otherwise clear green ocean. From the air, a hollow center was visible, evidence of long dormant volcanic activity. Otherwise, the island was nondescript. But on this island, inside the crater, an unimaginable treasure was embedded in the rock: An alien spaceship.
Alex Cave, tasked with coordinating the recovery of several items of advanced alien technology somewhere in the Bering Sea, discovers he is betrayed by one of the crew, who will stop at nothing to obtain one of these powerfully destructive devices. Alex knows that if this technology falls into the wrong hands, it could cause the end of life on the planet. And if this wasn’t enough, his past actions while working for the CIA have come back to haunt him, and his loved ones are put in grave danger. On this emotional rollercoaster, Alex literally feels the weight of the world on his shoulders as he is torn between saving the ones he loves, and saving humanity from extinction. Is there a way he can save both? Or will all life on the planet be destroyed by. . . RED ENERGY!

The long flowing curls of Rita Harrow’s red hair jostled back and forth, as she tiptoed up the stairs to the bridge of the Mystic.
The Mystic was a beautiful, two hundred foot research vessel, belonging to an independently wealthy individual named Mike Tanner. During the Cold Energy operation, Mike and his ship had played a vital role helping Alex Cave stop the expansion of the Polar Ice Sheet.
Rita peered carefully over the last step to make sure no one was on deck. Just as she thought. Most of the crew was on the island checking out the recently discovered spaceship. She hurried up the stairs, grabbed the satellite phone off the control console, and hurried back down.
She knew Alex Cave would be returning to the Mystic soon, and she needed a ride back to the island. In order for her plan to work, Alex had to be here on the Mystic, while she was on the island with his friend, Doctor Henry Heinz.
She knew a little bit about Alex’s past. After killing members of the Russian mafia while off mission, he had been forced to retire from his CIA job. However, his demeanor indicated he was still a competent agent, and although she had tried her best to be casual, she had a nagging sense he was suspicious of her involvement in this operation.
She checked her pistol, tucked it into the back of her pants, and tugged her coat down before stepping out onto the stern deck.

Another Excellent Energy Adventure Book, June 6, 2014 By Ron Watts (Anacortes, WA, USA)

Corkill's main character, Alex Cave, seems to just be made out of adventure molecules. This book picks you up and doesn't let you go through its entirety, with twists and turns you couldn't imagine! The team has yet to gain complete control over some alien technology, and when all seems lost.. well, you gotta read this book. No, it isn't necessary to have read the first two novels of this series to understand and enjoy it, but as with anything in a collection, it can help. I've read and loved all three of them. Two thumbs up for this great adventurous sci-fi!

"No One Writes A Faster Paced, High Action Thriller than James Corkill", June 7, 2014. By Nancy of Utah (Northern Utah)

He's baaack! Alex Cave and his team are back to save the world! Alex Cave was previously a CIA agent, but now is a professor of Geophysics at a University in Bozeman, Montana. Like Indiana Jones is driven to high adventure, so is Alex Cave! As things go awry, Yellowstone's Old Faithful is threatening to erupt big time as frequent earthquakes tremble in Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana. Add a revengeful Russian mobster who is tracking Alex's family to attempt pain and death to Alex. Alex can save the world, but not without help from a surprising strange-stranger. Read author James Corkill's other novels of high excitement: "Cold Energy," "Dead Energy," and you'll agree that this author is right up there with James Rollins and Clive Cussler. I guarantee this novel will spark your imagination as does his previous novels. Like his character, Alex Cave, James Corkill is a high achiever. Great talent.

"So you think you can write a book!" everyone thinks they can. But for a new writer
of 3 years Jim does an outstanding job.
I work in a library and have purchased all three books and my "Book Worms" both older and the teen set really enjoy them.
What is importent to me....the books are exciting, page turners and you feel a relationship to Alex and his family.
He doesn't feel the need to put dirty words or big sex scenes un- suitable for the younger set.
I would highly recommend all three books starting the "Dead Energy" first as they are a series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Red Energy: Unexpected Developments July 8, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
James Corkill is a retired firefighter. He writes just for pleasure and wants readers to enjoy his stories. I have read Dead Energy, Cold Energy and now also his latest book Red Energy. The series' hero is Alex Cave, a professor of geophysics at the Bozeman University in Montana. Red Energy is a fast paced story that never lets up. He is trying to recover an alien artifiact and a spaceship that both lie buried on a small island in the Bering Sea. The alien artifact was meant to clean earth's atmosphere eons ago. Unfortunately, the alien device is stolen and COBRA, a secretive reseach facility not terribly far from Yellowstone National Park, experiments with this artifact without having any clue as to what mayhem this can cause. Alex's good friend, Dr Henry Heinz, is also kidnapped and forced to assist COBRA with the various experiments. This thoughtless and ignorant experimentation triggers off adverse effects throughout Yellowstone National Park and many people are killed or hurt badly as a result of unexpected geyser eruptions. In addition, seismic activity is increasing sharply in the park and triggers a calamity. How can Alex prevent a super volcanic eruption? What follows is high adventure with unexpected twists and turns involving among other time travel. This series get better with each new book and I consider these adventures will keep the reader entertained for hours.

5.0 out of 5 stars but I’m glad he became a writer July 5, 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I don’t know how my brother comes up with all these ideas for his stories, but I’m glad he became a writer. I’m not being bias when I say that his stories are interesting and move at a fast pace. It was nice to learn more about Alex Cave’s background in this story, and I’ve asked him to explain how Alex became a geology instructor after leaving the CIA. He told me I’ll just have to wait until the next story to find out, so I’m looking forward to another Alex Cave adventure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alex Cave fans, prepare yourselves. July 1, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
For all the Alex Cave fans out there, this newest installment in the Alex Cave Adventures will send you on an emotional roller coaster. James Corkill has done it again with another great Alex Cave book. This author writes so fluidly that it makes reading one of his stories so easy and entertaining. The author hits the ground running within the first page of the book and you find yourself immediately captivated by the story and the characters. I found it hard to put the book down because I was dying to know what happened next. I've read all 3 of the Alex Cave books, and I think this one was up there as one of my favorites. I love the inclusion of the side stories from other people that were effected by the pending disaster. It gives the story more depth when you can see it through the eyes of by-standers rather than just the main characters.
If you have never read this author's work, then I recommend you do so; you will not be disappointed. If you like sci-fi doomsday thrillers, you'll enjoy all three of the Energy books. Corkill has a gift of getting right to the action and sucking you in for the ride. He peaks your interest to where you can't put the book down and want to find out what happens next, and before you know it, you've finished his book

5.0 out of 5 stars Another captivating Alex Cave story! June 30, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a brilliantly written story, that develops in a fast pace . If you thought that the story of our hero, an ex-CIA agent named Alex Cave, could not get better after Cold Energy, you were completely wrong. In this episode, Alex Cave is trying to recover an alien device and a spaceship in a desert island at the Bering Sea when things get out of control and the device and one member of his team are captured and transferred to an underground facility close to Yellowstone. Playing without knowing how to properly control the alien device ended up producing catastrophic consequences. If this is not bad enough, Russian mob leader wants revenge on Alex for killing his brother and captures his nephew and it is up to Alex to save his friend/family and prevent the extermination of human race over and over again...

You will read the book on the edge of your seat. An initial heartbreaking love story develops in the middle of the action and at the end it might have a happy ending after all. I guess we will find out about that in the next episode. Every turn of a page brings more excitement and it is guaranteed that you will be entertained for hours. It took me about nine hours to read the whole book. I just hope this is not the end of Alex Cave adventures! I can hardly wait to read more! You definitely should try James Corkill's books. His intelligent plots are here to stay.

This book was written by James M.Corkill and I received an electronic version for reviewing. I was not requested to provide a positive review. Opinions expressed here are my own.

More About the Author

I'm a retired Federal Firefighter from Naval Air Station on Whidbey Island, in Washington State, USA. While I lived on the island, I was fortunate to meet a famous horror writer named Hugh B. Cave, who became my mentor. Sadly, he passed away before I published my first novel, Dead Energy.
In 2001 my wife was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and wanted to see me published before she passed away. I'll never forget her smile when that first sample paperback arrived, but three months later she was gone. I became deeply depressed after losing my soul mate, and stopped writing. Two years later, I retired from the fire Department.
My depression lasted for eight years, and I drank heavily, and then one day a stranger read an old copy of Dead Energy, and thought I should start writing again. It was just the encouragement I needed, at just the right moment. The next day I quit drinking and began rewriting Dead Energy, with a new ending as the start of the Alex Cave Series. I re-published Dead Energy in Nov. 2013, and began writing episode 2, Cold Energy, published in Jan. 2014, and episode 3, Red Energy, published in June, 2014.
Now I live in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina, with a wonderful view from my writing desk.
