Highlights of The Red Green Show with Canada's favorite "guy's guys" are captured in The Best of Red Green, 67 minutes of clips from the long-running series which is broadcast in America on public television. In this video fans will find the funniest antics of Red and his effeminate nephew Harold, as well as Red's group of odd friends--either members of Possum Lodge or neighbors in the remote Canadian woods. All the best of the guys' flannel-shirt activities are here: adventures with Bill, the home-movie star who likes to fool with hoses and hammers, while accidentally breaking nearby car mirrors; Ranger Garth, the lonely fire-watching ranger who is desperate for someone to talk to; and Red's handyman segments in which he regularly destroys perfectly good tables, toilets, and other household items with a chainsaw, duct tape, and dry how-to commentary. In fact, it's deadpan wit that makes this show work so well, especially in the game-show-like segments, when Red has 60 seconds to get a dense mechanic friend to say the word "marriage." Look for cameos by SCTV's Dave Thomas and actor Graham Greene, whose incredibly straight-faced monologue about the joy of explosions will leave you crying with laughter. A must-have for fans. --Karen Karleski

5.0 out of 5 stars Red Green at his wackiest., July 25, 2000

This review is from: The Red Green Show - The Best of Red Green [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This tape is a one-hour collection of scenes from the fabulous Red Green show. Red and Harold, who are reminiscing by a campfire, introduce each scene. Many of the Possum Lodge regulars are here, including Ranger Gord, Dalton Humphrey, Winston Rothschild, and others. As an added bonus, after the show is a small conversation with Steve Smith (Red Green) and Rick Green (Bill Smith). The two actors describe the history of the New Red Green Show, how they go about making the show, and much more. I did enjoy hearing the actors speaking in their normal voices.

I didn't encounter anything in the show that was unsuitable for younger viewers, and enjoyed in immensely. You should buy this tape.

The video is variety of the best clips from the PBS show, The Red Green Show, with side comments from Red Green between clips. At the end, it also includes a special behind the scenes look at the show with the creators.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gotchyou, December 14, 2001
This review is from: The Red Green Show - The Best of Red Green [VHS] (VHS Tape)
My introduction to Red Green was an error in changing the channel on my TV. I could not believe what I watching and out of how hard Red was trying to be funny, I laughed. Since that first show I have been a regular watcher. This video is great and fun to watch Red at work. The laughter comes easily over the nonsense of the collection. It is nice to watch a show that takes no deep thinking and is pure entertainment. This video has an extra introduction and history of the show, it's actors, and characters at the end. If you are already a fan of Red's get set to see some of your favorite parts.
