Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
The spirited Red Green, handyman and proud member of the Possum Lodge in frozen Canada, presents an hour's worth of some of the strangest automotive advice ever put on video. Green, his impossibly nerdy nephew Harold, and other characters from CBC's Red Green Show (which appears in America on PBS) present this tribute to the automobile in their lovably wacky style, which consists of loopy humor and jokes so utterly awful that they're brilliant. Utilizing his old standby, duct tape, Red Green begins by making a zamboni (a hockey arena ice-treating machine) out of a Chrysler K-car, and his awesome (or is it awful?) handyman skills are put on display throughout the video. In one segment Red makes new tires out of PVC pipe and old shoes, shows off his prowess (or lack thereof) at filling a dent with body putty, and, in a bizarre finale, takes an old Trailways bus and creates a sports car, a very long sports car. If the gags are often horrendous, they are delivered in an infectiously understated manner, and those who appreciate folksy Canadian humor will no doubt find Red Green driving them to laughter. --Robert J. McNamara

From the Back Cover
Most men can't remember where they were when they kissed a girl for the first time, or even what her name was. But ask them what they recall about the first car they drove, and they'll tell you the make, the model year, the engine size, and even the exact punishment they got for driving their friend's dad's car without permission and without a license. That's how men feel about cars. Sure, they're loud, they pollute, they break down as they get older, they cause accidents, but let's face it: They're a lot like us! It's why we feel comfortable around them. That's what this program is all about - men getting close to their cars. Call it a celebration or call it a love story. Whatever you do, make sure you buy lots of copies. There's a new pickup I've had my eye on, and they don't give those things away! Red

4.0 out of 5 stars Dog-gone funny!, December 15, 1998
By A Customer
When I first saw the Red Green Show, I thought it was some kind of wierd redneck show, but after watching it again with friends, I realized that much of the humor works on two levels. You can watch it with your kids and they will be hysterical over the physical humor. You, however, will be laughing at something they won't understand for years. But you don't have to worry about "adult themes" the way you do with so many shows now. This video and "We Can't Help It, We're Men" are the best of the bunch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funnier than most, April 18, 2000
I got this one recently and it's pretty funny!

I'm not much of an "Adventures with Bill" fan so I could do without those segments but the banter with Harold is great! And the fire extinguisher car is a riot!

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny time and again, March 17, 2009
By lazebonez (New York) - See all my reviews
we have watched this video for almost 4 years now and still haven't tired of it (we even wore the video out and got the DVD)! Even my son has loved it since he was a toddler. This is one of the funniest Red Green's, especially if you like cars. Red Green is just plain funny, but the material in this video on cars is some of his best. While none of it is off-color, it is not boring or bland at all.

As an Engineer who often has to make do with materials on hand when developing projects, and an amateur woodworker, Red Green has a special meaning to me. Read more
