Book Description

Visual QuickPro Guides August 13, 1999
A multi-tasking OS with a visual, user-friendly interface, Linux has moved beyond its core of die-hard fans and into the mainstream. Red Hat Linux, the leading version of this open-source, Unix-based OS, lets you run both its own powerful productivity apps and versions of popular programs such as Netscape Navigator and Corel WordPerfect. With Red Hat Linux 6: Visual QuickPro Guide, you can go straight to work with Linux, as you learn it.

Red Hat Linux 6: VQP follows the same visual approach as the books in the immensely popular Visual QuickStart series--it features clear, jargon-free explanations and instructions, plenty of screenshots--but is aimed at intermediate to advanced readers. Author Harold Davis teaches you what you need to know to get the most out of Red Hat Linux: how to navigate and configure the Gnome desktop, work with its native (and non-native) apps, use the command line, and set up network and Web servers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good start-up guide, October 29, 1999
This review is from: Red Hat Linux 6: Visual QuickPro Guide (Paperback)
This book got me up and going in minutes. It goes into good detail about the Gnome interface, which is probably the most user friendly GUI for the Linux beginner. Plus just having the RH Linux 6.0 cd accompany it is enough to make you get this book. Advanced users may not find this book has enough detailed information.

5.0 out of 5 stars The one book that really got me up and running in Linux, October 12, 1999
This review is from: Red Hat Linux 6: Visual QuickPro Guide (Paperback)
I tried several other books, but only Harold Davis' bookactually gave me all the info I needed to get Linux running. Yes, youcan install Linux right from the CD in the book, by following Harold'sclear and detailed instructions. And don't let the small size of the book or the plentiful illustrations fool you - this book covers a wide range of Linux commands and tools, even setting up a Web server. The best Linux book I've read.
