I knew nothing about Early Graves, but Red Horse got some good reviews when it came out, so I picked it up. I finally got around to listening to it this week. Had I known it was this great, I wouldn't have waited.

I'm iffy about the differences between crust/hardcore/death/d-beat and whatever else we're supposed to call loud music these days. But this sounds like Disfear playing with Entombed's gear. Everything is super-heavy, a little loose, and the sound is raw without being sloppy. The vocals are Tomas Lindberg-manic, and the band doesn't waste time with 8-minute noodly epics.

This thing cranks. If you like Entombed, Disfear, Trap Them, Black Breath, or in general things that are loud and awesome, you should try this out.

It's been a few years since Early Graves' last LP "Goner" as well as the sudden & sad departure of vocal Makh Daniels. Thankfully the band has rebounded in a most refreshing way, creating an unbelievably brutal effort with "Red Horse." The band shifts into overdrive, thanks in part to new vocalist John Strachan's man-on-fire barking, and the band's ability to change speeds on a dime. This release is a near-perfect mix of blistering dashes, lumbering footsteps, and quiet sidesteps. They got some audio help from Kurt Ballou (Converge), and they really got it right: very powerful production without being overslick. This sucker is raw, the way it should be. You can taste the urgency. Can't wait to catch them on tour starting in April, they are a pure sonic assault live.

stop reading this and buy it. Then buy their other 2 albums Goner and We the Guillotine then thrash, rinse and repeat.
RIP Makh I miss you bro. \m/
