Book Description

Warner Forever April 1, 2005
The long hot Louisiana summer just got hotter for Rene LeDeux. He's burned out by D.C. politics and only wants to build his cabin in peace. But if his wacky, matchmaking great-aunt has her way, Bayou Black's prodigal son will be hitched before he can say butt-naked! That honor goes to Valerie "Ice" Breaux, Rene's high school nemesis turned Trial TV anchor, who's been abducted by Rene's activist friends. Mon Dieu! It's bad enough being kidnapped and having her power suit ride up her thighs. Did she have to land in the lap of the most irritating, sexiest hunk she's ever laid her eyes on? Now Val's stranded in Rene's remote cabin, besieged by irrepressible LeDeux relations, not to mention a dingbat duo out to save the swamp. It's a heat wave, guar-an-teed! Val vows she'll give her heart to the Cajun bad boy when alligators fly. Rene swears to get the girl who got away. It's never been steamier in the bayou than with two people this red-hot with desire...and more than ready for love.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Burned out as a Washington, D.C., environmental lobbyist, René LeDeux retreats to his remote Louisiana Bayou Black cabin to regroup at the start of Hill's spicy conclusion to her Cajun Bad Boy series (Tall Dark and Cajun, etc.). In temporary residence is Tante Lulu, René's 79-year-old matchmaking great-aunt, who's in her usual rare form, planting plastic St. Jude statues all over the place, stitching up bridal quilts for those wild Cajun nephews of hers and waiting for the "love thunderbolt" to strike. When a couple of René's eccentric "tree-hugging" pals kidnap TV anchorwoman Valerie Breaux and abandon her on René's doorstep, Tante Lulu figures her prayers have been answered. Not René; the last thing he wants is a woman in his world, especially Val, with whom he shared an embarrassing high school sexual disaster. Ditto for Val. Recently canned for refusing to spice up her news stories with tabloid-style segments, she just wants to get back and raise hell about her dismissal. But Tante Lulu (and St. Jude) have other ideas. While the ending is a little overdone, Hill's thigh-slapping humor and thoughtful look at the endangered Louisiana bayou ecosystem turn this into an engaging read. (Apr.)

From Booklist

As Hill goes Cajun once again, as in The Cajun Cowboy [BKL Je 1 & 15 04], all Rene LeDeux wants is a little peace in the sanctuary of Louisiana's Bayou Black after his stint as an environmental lobbyist in Washington, D.C., losing battle after battle to big businesses and interest groups who couldn't care less about the planet. But instead he must fight an even bigger battle: his tree-hugging activist friends have kidnapped Trial TV celebrity Valerie "Ice" Breaux and brought her to Bayou Black to get media attention for their cause. To make matters worse, Rene, a Cajun, and Valerie, a Creole, share an antagonistic past. Hill has put more of everything in this book--more hot sex, a more serious subtext (both Rene and Valerie were abused as children), and a lot more information on bayou ecology and the effects of a changing environment--adding up to a brimming romance for people who like to laugh, people who like to cry, and people who are concerned with the current status of the earth. 4.0 out of 5 stars Very Hot Good Book......, March 25, 2005
This review is from: The Red-Hot Cajun (Warner Forever) (Mass Market Paperback)
Rene Ledeux is laying back and working on his bayou cabin. The stress of Washington D C and working for the preservation of the bayou of Lousianna have led to burnout. Our bad boy just needs to get it together, decide what he wants to do next, and avoid Tante Lulu and her Hope Chest. But fate or rather St. Jude has him in his sites, and the poor boy is on a downhill slide.

Valerie Breaux nicknamed "Ice", is a reporter on Trial TV. At least she was until recently when she was fired. With her life in tatters she comes home to be kidnapped by two of Rene's activist friends. Then taken to Rene's and dumped on him until she agrees to do a documentary on the bayou. Not only is she hot about the kidnapping, she is raging at Rene, who was her biggest opponent in school. NOt to mention what happened the night she got snockered with him at age 15. She had hoped to never see the creep again.

Tante Lulu just looks at them and declares that they had been hit by a lightening bolt. As unhappy as she is to see who St. Jude has choosen for REne, she sets out to do her best to see it accomplished. At 80 years old and smitten by Richard Simmons nothing can hold this wildcat back. While they fuss, fight, and fall she is "sweating to the oldies", filling his hope chest, and helping them against the oil tyrants who are trying to stop the filming of the bayou.

While the book has alot of humor and hot romance like all of Sandra Hill's books. The plot is not quite as good as TALL DARK AND CAJUN, THE LOVE POTION, or her Viking series. It is still a great way to spend some time. And if you like me, enjoy alittle (or alot) of humor, you won't be able to put it down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hill writes a romantic novel that Predicted theACTUAL future, March 20, 2006
This review is from: The Red-Hot Cajun (Warner Forever) (Mass Market Paperback)
This was the 4th book in the Americana Series, and I loved each and every one of them. But the thing that got me the most, that was one year before Hurricane Katrina destroyed New Orleans and the Louisiana/Mississippi Coastlines, she was writing about problems the Levees and environmental concerns would do to that area.

This book gave me not only enjoyment, but a real look into why New Orleans was flooded. It wasn't that the Levees were too short, but that they were at all.

I recommend this book highly, for the continuing romance of the LaDeux family, and a wonderful look into real environmental problems. I only wish she'd write a post-Katrina family book.

5.0 out of 5 stars I am now a huge fan of Sandra Hill!! Funny, Sexy & HOT!!, May 26, 2006
This review is from: The Red-Hot Cajun (Warner Forever) (Mass Market Paperback)
This was my first book by Sandra Hill, and I became a huge fan before I was even half done with this book. I immediately bought the rest of the Cajun series plus some of her other books. (It really doesn't matter if you haven't read the earlier Cajun books, this one stands on its own!) This story was cleaver, and the hero/heroine so likable. I was also surprised to learn so much about the enviromental issues of Louisianna. Very interesting. The story sizzled with great humor and heat, and I can't wait to read the rest of the series. Highly recommended.
