page 100. The plot just did hold me enough to want to go on. It seems too predictable. Maybe I am also overdosing on the virginal (or "semi-virginal" in this case) females and the full-throttle testosterone males solving this dilemna. This was my first Sandra Hill book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Hot Good Book......, March 25, 2005
This review is from: The Red-Hot Cajun (Warner Forever) (Mass Market Paperback)
Rene Ledeux is laying back and working on his bayou cabin. The stress of Washington D C and working for the preservation of the bayou of Lousianna have led to burnout. Our bad boy just needs to get it together, decide what he wants to do next, and avoid Tante Lulu and her Hope Chest. But fate or rather St. Jude has him in his sites, and the poor boy is on a downhill slide.

Valerie Breaux nicknamed "Ice", is a reporter on Trial TV. At least she was until recently when she was fired. With her life in tatters she comes home to be kidnapped by two of Rene's activist friends. Then taken to Rene's and dumped on him until she agrees to do a documentary on the bayou. Not only is she hot about the kidnapping, she is raging at Rene, who was her biggest opponent in school. NOt to mention what happened the night she got snockered with him at age 15. She had hoped to never see the creep again.

Tante Lulu just looks at them and declares that they had been hit by a lightening bolt. As unhappy as she is to see who St. Jude has choosen for REne, she sets out to do her best to see it accomplished. At 80 years old and smitten by Richard Simmons nothing can hold this wildcat back. While they fuss, fight, and fall she is "sweating to the oldies", filling his hope chest, and helping them against the oil tyrants who are trying to stop the filming of the bayou.

While the book has alot of humor and hot romance like all of Sandra Hill's books. The plot is not quite as good as TALL DARK AND CAJUN, THE LOVE POTION, or her Viking series. It is still a great way to spend some time. And if you like me, enjoy alittle (or alot) of humor, you won't be able to put it down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hill writes a romantic novel that Predicted theACTUAL future, March 20, 2006
This review is from: The Red-Hot Cajun (Warner Forever) (Mass Market Paperback)
This was the 4th book in the Americana Series, and I loved each and every one of them. But the thing that got me the most, that was one year before Hurricane Katrina destroyed New Orleans and the Louisiana/Mississippi Coastlines, she was writing about problems the Levees and environmental concerns would do to that area.

This book gave me not only enjoyment, but a real look into why New Orleans was flooded. It wasn't that the Levees were too short, but that they were at all.

I recommend this book highly, for the continuing romance of the LaDeux family, and a wonderful look into real environmental problems. I only wish she'd write a post-Katrina family book.

5.0 out of 5 stars I am now a huge fan of Sandra Hill!! Funny, Sexy & HOT!!, May 26, 2006
This review is from: The Red-Hot Cajun (Warner Forever) (Mass Market Paperback)
This was my first book by Sandra Hill, and I became a huge fan before I was even half done with this book. I immediately bought the rest of the Cajun series plus some of her other books. (It really doesn't matter if you haven't read the earlier Cajun books, this one stands on its own!) This story was cleaver, and the hero/heroine so likable. I was also surprised to learn so much about the enviromental issues of Louisianna. Very interesting. The story sizzled with great humor and heat, and I can't wait to read the rest of the series. Highly recommended.

Oh my goodness! I Love Sandra Hill and I love these books!! They are such a fun quick read and I agree, well informed about enviromental woes.

I found myself laughing and badgering the fella's and all their nonsense. The characters are lovable and real with real issues and then some.

If you want a quick summer read to make you smile and sizzle away your blues these cajun tales will do the trick.

I hope there is more as well, it's almost scary to think what TJ will grow up to be like. I can't wait to see what Sandra Hill has in store for him.

For anyone who is a fan of Hill's Cajun series ( The Love Potion, Tall, Dark, & Cajun, or The Cajun Cowboy) you will love this book as it is equally as good as its predecessors. Red-hot Cajun is also a great stand alone book too if you haven't had a chance to pick the others up.
The last of age bachelor in the LeDuex family is about to meet his match in the form of an old flame...even if she is bare bummed and upside down when it happens. Valerie, bayou celebrity on the equivalent of court tv, is kidnapped and hauled to Rene's cabin by some of his enviromental friends who want her to help them get a little press. Instead she gets an earful of Tante Lulu, Rene's crazy aunt, and a little press of flesh with Rene. Together Rene and Valerie explore their old feelings, make some new memories, try to save the bayou & fight Valerie's cold family while trying not to trip over Tante Lulu and her madcapp matchmaking St. Jude statues. As usual the characters are hilarious and the LeDuex family shines. Sandra Hill will leave you begging for more!

4.0 out of 5 stars Hot! Gar-an-teed!!!!!!!, April 12, 2005
This review is from: The Red-Hot Cajun (Warner Forever) (Mass Market Paperback)
I am a HUGE fan of Sandra Hill's Cajun Series and the long awaited Rene's story did not disappoint. Though the romance and story is not as great as Tall, Dark, and Cajun or The Love Portion, it still satisfies. Ms. Hill says this will be her last Cajun adventure (for now) and I am looking forward to Tee-John's tale (if she chooses to write one). This book has great humor, sizzling sex scenes, and pretty much on the button with the Cajun atomsphere (I should know, I live in South Louisiana).

I'm about ready to head myself down to the Bayou and find me a Cajun! Like all the others in the series this was fantastic! I hope Sandra Hill decides to do another on TJ.

I want to be Tante Lulu when I grow up! Dresses how she wants, does what she wants, says what she wants and doesn't let what others think bother her. She's my new heroine!

4.0 out of 5 stars Whoo-ee This Is A Good End!!, April 5, 2005
This review is from: The Red-Hot Cajun (Warner Forever) (Mass Market Paperback)
Although Ms. Hill teases us for now, this is the last in her Cajun series. As a result readers are treated to Rene's story which has been long in coming but worth waiting for.

Rene is a burned out lobbyist for the Louisiana wet-lands. He is at his home-a-way from home deep in the bayou when two well meaning people drop off his worst nightmare. Val Breaux.

These two people have a past from way back...to the ripe old age of 15. One foiled night of romance, one too many pink slo Gin Fizz's and well...let's just say not a fond memory for either for waaaay different reasons. Now they are adults, they still burned for each other but have too much pride, or do they. In any event there is a whole kidnapping for publicity thing that Rene has been dragged into, and a misunderstanding or two to sort out. Once this is done do Val and Rene stand half a chance to make their relationship work?

Rene and Val are both very dynamic characters. They are both too proud, have crazy families to deal with, and of course their attraction that is anything but tame. This story brings back all of the old friends that we've been introduced to throughout this series. Ms. Hill deftly combines humor, romance, and rather serious issues into a read that will captivate readers. I highly recommend Ms. Hill if you are a fan of fun light romances. She has created characters that you won't soon forget. Talk about!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Very Virile Cajun..., August 17, 2008
By

(VINE VOICE)
This is my first Sandra Hill book and it won't be my last. I really enjoyed this book. The characters are all larger than life and hysterical. Some are down right crazy, like the indomitable Tante Lulu who at first glance is a meddling, senile old lady, but is really very wise and so giving. She's the grandmother we are all embarrassed by when she comes in contact with our friends, but if she wasn't there it would be an incredible loss. Sandra also puts some sour along with the sweet in the form of Valerie's mother. What a witch!

Sandra also introduces me to the Louisiana bayou and the myriad of environmental problems it faces. Her descriptions of the bayou made it seem very romantic but I know if I were to step foot in the swamps I would probably scream and run back home. Sandra liberally sprinkles the effervescent charm of Cajun life with it's food and music and she tries to capture the cadence of their speech. Something I found, to be honest distracting, only because I have no frame of reference for what a Cajun sounds like. I can only image Britney Spears and that's never a good thing.

Surprisingly there is a lot of depth and conflict in this book. Something I wasn't expecting as I was under the impression this was going to be a silly slapstick book. I liked the fact that Rene and Val had to make some adult decisions about their relationship such as where to live, that to be honest, I don't think I've read about before with such depth. Normally the hero and heroine fall in love and voila, all problems are solved. Not so much in this book. It actually confronts that obstacle and Rene and Val have to make tough decisions and sacrifices. But this is a romance and it will all work out in the end, and what an ending! So touching to read about Rene and Valerie's uncertainty and hesitation in taking that final step, although to be honest, it had already been done for them. The rest was just formality. *laughs*

Also surprising, Sandra Hill has a kinky side! This was an unexpected and wholly enjoyable benefit. *grins* The book has several playful, erotic scenes of two people learning each others bodies and fantasies. Just like in the beginning stages of a relationship and it was really sweet.

I can't wait to get the rest of her Cajun series, and her Viking series.
