Finally, a well-researched and well-written book about sexuality that manages to be both intellectually and libidinally stimulating. What a great idea: chapters on Tantric philosophy by one author, an expert academic on the subject, alternating with rather sizzling short stories that illustrate the concepts by another author who seems equally accomplished. I'm sorry to say, I appreciated the idea behind this book much more than the book itself. Introducing tantric techniques to readers through the tantalizing medium of erotica, followed by a down-to-earth explaination really is a great idea. I think it's a perfect approach for teaching a subject that is so often blurred with excess dogma and rigid guidelines. I had high hopes when I purchased my copy of this book.

Unfortunately, once I bought it, I realized this book is not the balanced introduction to Tantric practice mixed with some spicy erotica that I thought it would be. It's essentially geared towards women, and the instruction in each chapter is almost an after-thought. Although there is plenty for couples to do, and a great deal of encouragement for women, there is little written to inspire men in what their bodies can achieve through tantra or what they can share with a partner.

In fact, right from the introduction, the author seems to discourage men from seeking anything more than the typical ejaculatory orgasm. He actually states that while it's impressive that a man can achieve "the female extended orgasm" he asks "what's the point?"

Well, as a man who learned how to enjoy extended multiple orgasms years ago, I could easily write a book of my own answering Mr. Ramsdale's question. And my wife could add a few chapters of her own! I was shocked that he would suggest to men such experiences of pleasure and ecstasy are somehow not worth learning or unnatural, a "female" thing, and therefore not for us men to enjoy.

I heartily disagree. And I'm sad to see he took this prejudiced turn after writting Sexual Energy Ecstasy, which is a far better manual on exploring pleasure, intimacy, and ecstasy for both genders.

Still, I had to give it 3 stars. 1 star for the well written, although somewhat female-fantasy-centered erotica. Another star for the casual (almost too casual) instruction of occasional techniques, and finally one very big star simply because towards the end of the book, he recommends Jack Johnston's Male Multiple Orgasm seminar as the best way for men (and women) to learn how to become multi-orgasmic. At least we agree on something!

In conclusion, I would recommend this book for most women (and their partners) as a way to appreciate their bodies as the sacred, sensual temples that they are. I think there are plenty of couples out there who might enjoy sharing the erotic tales together as well as some of the techniques offered.

This book will open new doors in your mind, heart and body, and it effectively demonstrates how all three are interconnected.

My fiancee and I have been taking turns reading chapters aloud to each other, then putting into practice the ideas we found. I'd think it would also be a great tool for anybody "in between" relationships, as it would help you to discover and radiate your own sensual aura. Either way, if you're interested in bringing more intimacy into your life, you should read this book cover to cover.

Smarter and classier than most "sex books" and WAY hotter than any academic tome on the frequently esoteric subject of Tantra. I have to say that the short stories by the female author were a particular eye-opener for me. That gal really knows how to burn up a page! Read it with someone you love, or read it and find someone to love!

5.0 out of 5 stars Relax your mind & body to reach heightened sexual experience, August 21, 2004
This review is from: Red Hot Tantra: Erotic Secrets of Red Tantra for Intimate, Soul-to-Soul Sex and Ecstatic, Enlightened Orgasms (Paperback)
Red Hot Tantra is a pleasure to read on your own or with a loved one. The tantric lessons are accompanied by short stories, which are quite arrousing. I have to admit, I've read this on my own and have gained quite alot of self-satisfaction. Also, when reading Red Hot Tantra with my lover we keep the lessons in mind after getting aroused from the short stories and always have enlightening sexual experiences. The book has truely helped me relax my mind and body while focusing clearly on the moment. Reaching heightened senses in all aspets of sensuality.

5.0 out of 5 stars great bedside reading, August 20, 2004
This review is from: Red Hot Tantra: Erotic Secrets of Red Tantra for Intimate, Soul-to-Soul Sex and Ecstatic, Enlightened Orgasms (Paperback)
there is so much bad erotica out there it's amazing that good authors actually get published... but this is definitely a great book. the style is informative wihtout being droll, and definitely helps spice up the bedroom... my wife really appreciated the new "skills" I picked up.

the book is written with a happy style and I really enjoyed the erotic fiction which blended the tantra lessons into little short stories - they really got the juices flowing.

great book all around - highly recommend it for couples and non-couples alike.

1.0 out of 5 stars red hot tantra? not hardly, more like cold oatmeal erotica, August 24, 2005
This review is from: Red Hot Tantra: Erotic Secrets of Red Tantra for Intimate, Soul-to-Soul Sex and Ecstatic, Enlightened Orgasms (Paperback)
I don't know what happened between the author's intentions and the end result but this book has little or nothing to do with tantra, red hot or otherwise. It consists mainly of lame, pedestrian, badly written erotica followed by short chapters explaining why the erotica is/was erotic and how one might incorporate some elements of the fiction into one's real sex life. Fine: if you're the kind of person who has never before thought of reading erotica, but not so fine if you're a reasonably liberal, sexually educated adult who is trying to incorporate real tantric practices in your married sex life. I guess if you've been living in a hyper religious ultra conservative community and your parents never had the "talk" with you then just the fact that you're reading about people having SEX might be red hot; but for the rest of us, not so much. I wish I had read this book thoroughly before the 30 day return period had expired.

I did really enjoy the book. I have learned so much about women's internal process with this book and such an enjoyable way that I have to recomend the reading of it. Really nice erotic tales! Just grab a good cup of coffee and relax and enjoy the short stories in this book. To bad that they are really short!

There are so many badly written sex scenes in fiction these days that the short stories that accompany the non-fiction text describing Red Tantra are a delight to read. well written, graphic enough to do what good erotica is supposed to do without going into clinical descriptions or silly metaphors. Excellent!

this is not really about Tantra. It sort of introduces some basic tantric concepts and then gives you a gentle erotic story. eh. no big deal. not worth the money if you are looking to learn about tantra.

This book sounds as if it would be a good read. I have found it much more
difficult to read than most books. Perhaps it's the subject matter. This book
expounds upon the way to lead an Enlightened Life overall. I can not recommend
this book because I have had so much difficulty keeping my mind on the suject
matter.

1.0 out of 5 stars So hokey!, January 20, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Red Hot Tantra: Erotic Secrets of Red Tantra for Intimate, Soul-to-Soul Sex and Ecstatic, Enlightened Orgasms (Paperback)
As I read this book, I can picture in my mind those guys from the 70s...you know the one...with the hairy chest and big gold medallion and a mustache. Really boring, and it felt like maybe my dad wrote it in 1970. I got an icky feeling from it, and was very disappointed. Sorry to the authors, but this just didn't do it for me. Maybe this is good for older people who are inexperienced lovers to begin with, and the idea of spanking sets you all a-tingle...but for me it was boring and hokey.
