Enjoyable Sensual Reading for Valentine's Day!,
By Beverly "Beverly" (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Red Hot Valentine's Day (Avon Red) (Paperback)
Nothing is so special, except chocolates, flowers and/or diamonds :) for this romantic holiday than a good sensual erotic Valentine romance anthology to read....and this is a good one!
In Lacy Dane's Torn Desires, a beautiful widow, Sophia, who is the lover of the handsome Lord Quinton and happens to live in a cottage near his estate, discovers he has written a special woman friend to pick a proper lady wife who will not only fit into his title but his desires in the bedroom, and she is livid. But then Lord Quinton's friend Miss Anne Cathcort just happens to bring her lover Alistair Taylor, the third son of the Marquis of Lanktor who is immediately drawn to Sophia's sensuality and passion. Soon Sophia finds herself in a "pick and choose" between the two superb lovers. Who will fulfill her desires and eventually her heart? This is one sexy story that keeps the reader entertained and wondering until the end. Megan Hart's Get There, is one sexy long distance contemporary relationship with sexy and passionate emails, text messages, and phone calls between Edie and Ty as they prepare to finally be together and hopefully pack up and move their careers and homes to be together before Valentine's Day. The sensual fantasies Edie and Ty create are fun and the story leaves the reader patiently waiting to see if these two passionate lovers can make the Valentine's Day deadline to create a loving and sensual future. Valentine's Day wouldn't be fun without a sensual paranormal romance in this anthology and Jackie Kessler hits a high score with her tale of one cuddly incubus and an oversexed succubus, in Hell Is Where the Heart Is. Daunuan and Jezebel have longed for each other throughout the Abyss and finally get a chance to be together, even if they have to take time out to join with a few humans along the way. The story is creative with short sensual and erotic subchapters that move back and forth from Daunuan's and Jezebel's thoughts, feelings and specialized sexual desires. Those who love to eat up a good paranormal will love this sensual underworld Valentine story. By Valentine's Day by Jess Michaels is the real treat of this anthology and is worth purchasing this book just for the opportunity to read an excellent erotic story from one of the best erotic romance authors. This writer's specialty, the Regency Romance, pulls the heartstrings as two long time friends the beautiful Charlotte and handsome Colin, face the reality that they have loved each other for as long as they can remember. But Charlotte is to marry again. Will Colin be able to face his love this time and tell Charlotte in order to stop her wedding decision in time? Can he convince Charlotte that his reputation as a rake has been to avoid his true feelings of passion and desire for her? She is to make her decision to marry another by Valentine's Day. Will Colin prove himself by that special date of romance, or will his plan of seducing Charlotte backfire?

four well written erotic romantic novellas,
This review is from: A Red Hot Valentine's Day (Avon Red) (Paperback)
"Torn Desires" by Lacey Danes. Widow Sophia enjoys having two hunks in her life while wondering if choosing one over the other will be enough to satiate her appetite.
"Get There" by Megan Hart. Edie and Ty are lovers though their relationship is long distance; each dreams of their next in person reunion on Valentine's Day as they ponder how they will arrive at the tryst site and what they plan to do with their beloved. "Hell Is Where the Heart Is" by Jackie Kessler. The two demons need time away from their jobs of enticing mortals so they take deserved vacation nights to enjoy sex the way it is meant to be, demon heated. "By Valentine's Day" by Jess Michaels. The rake has until Valentine's Day to persuade Charlotte that he loves her, but she is marrying someone else in one week; his plan to win her heart is to love her with a passion from the core of his soul. These are four well written erotic romantic novellas that range from historical to fantasy to contemporary, but share the title of A RED HOT VALENTINE'S DAY collection. Fan who relish their sweets served differently will want to read this heated holiday anthology. Harriet Klausner

More exciting and fewer calories than a chocolate heart,
By Hooked (Midwest, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Red Hot Valentine's Day (Avon Red) (Paperback)
While the unappealing cover art of this book may turn you off, the four erotic short stories inside will definitely turn you on. With a connection to Valentine's Day, these stories are all are well-written and include sex scenes hot enough to wilt a dozen roses and melt your chocolate.
(3.5 stars) "Torn Desires" by Lacy Danes A Regency Historical romance about Sophia trying to get her boyfriend Lord Quinton to commit. Unbeknownst to Sophia, Quinton employs an agency to find him a suitable wife, on the assumption Sophia will be a fall back. The agency owner's companion Alistair is disgusted by rake Quinton's treatment of Sophia and seeks out her affections. It's a pretty good story, though the premise seems unrealistic for 1822 (might have worked better set as a contemporary, I think). The sex scenes were good, but sometimes gratuitous. The strength of the story is in the decision Sophia makes about her boyfriend and the unconventional ending. ____________________________________ (3 stars) "Get There" by Megan Hart Contemporary romance about TV writer Edie who is in a long-distance relationship with her fiancé Ty. She quits her job and moves across country to be with him on Valentines Day. Clever conceit about Edie writing fantasy time-travel type scenarios to entertain Ty (think phone sex but in erotic email form). Otherwise a pretty predictable story and reunion. Hart is an excellent writer, her books "Dirty" and "Broken" are unparalleled imho, and though competent, this short story doesn't really show her skill. ____________________________________ (5 stars) "Hell Is Where the Heart Is" by Jackie Kessler Paranormal romance about two demons, incubus Daunuan and succubus Jezebel. While on separate assignments to seduce evil humans and bring their souls to hell, they bump into each other in a busy card shop on Valentine's Day and rekindle their romance. This was very clever and I laughed out loud several times. The story is in first person alternating two POV with scenes from the present in the card shop and the past in front of the gates of hell where they met. Discovering authors like this is why I read anthologies. I'm definitely going to pick up Kessler's books. ____________________________________ (4 stars) "By Valentine's Day" by Jess Michaels A Regency romance. Housebound during a snow storm, Charlotte entertains guest Colin who suggests they pass the time playing a sexual fantasies game. Meanwhile Colin tries to dissuade her from marrying a rival, and convince her he is no longer a rake and worthy of her hand. Some pretty hot sex games including a unique piano sex scene. This story has more relationship development than most short stories. It's a very enjoyable, satisfying romance.

This was one of the hardest books to get through for me. Even though it was 4 different stories they each seemed to take forever. Just not enough of something for me. Tough read.

Better than a chocolate fix,
This review is from: A Red Hot Valentine's Day (Avon Red) (Paperback)
Lacy Danes, Megan Hart, Jackie Kessler, and Jess Michaels all strutted their literary stuff(s) in this anthology. lol. Though their writing styles were distinctly different, they were all honed to perfection. These ladies are truly talented and know how to tell interesting stories. I even read Jackie Kessler's 'Hell Is Where the Heart Is' even though the demon lovers storyline creeped me out. lol.
Yet it was Jess Michaels' 'By Valentine's Day' that stirred me the most. I found myself routing for Colin to win Charlotte's hand, despite his reputation of being a rake. The fact that Charlotte's passions matched his own had me screaming, "Don't marry the boring guy simply because he's emotionally safe! Marry the guy who can make you forget your own name in his kiss! Marry Colin!" Did Charlotte listen to me? You'll have to get the book and see. I'm not spoiling this surprise ending for anything. lol. |
