5.0 out of 5 stars Great Movie, But Where is the DVD?, October 24, 2004
This review is from: Red Kiss [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a great movie. I have not seen the film since 1985 when it first came out, but I have often thought about it. I was very young when I saw it and it made me think about the period in France after WWII in which they became enamoured with Stalin (hence the title Red Kiss). I recall some of the conflcits integral to the storyline dealt with a young French women's wrestling of the "rosy" ideals of Stalinism, coming to terms with the evidence of his attrocities.

It's crazy that there is no DVD out yet after all this time. If this came out on DVD, I'd buy a copy for each of my friends for Xmas. It won the prize at the Berlin film festival for crying out loud. I know its out on VHS and the Amazon sells it, but I don't really use VHS anymore.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Sweet Valentine for Lovers Everywhere, January 28, 2007
This review is from: Red Kiss [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is not just another movie from a teen romance genre. It is a smart and realistic portrayal of a young woman falling in love for the first time. Nadia (Charlotte Valandrey) feels passionate about everything: Stalin, Apollinaire, Scarlett O'Hara and most of all for Stephane (Lambert Wilson). Her youth gives her the confidence for her passions, yet her naivete makes her feel lonely and misunderstood at times. Stephane gives her the acceptance she yearns for at home and at the pro-Communist groups.

The onscreen chemistry of Charlotte Valandrey and Lambert Wilson, combined with first rate acting makes this movie one of the best romance movies EVER. It is by far the most under-rated movie I have ever come across. I can't believe there's no DVD available! Now, that's a travesty!

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE this film!, December 11, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Red Kiss [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I was very fortunate to have bought this movie, it's so excellent. It has a sweet love story but what keeps it together is the main character Nadia, who is wise beyond her years. It's no wonder that Stephan falls for her. I especially love the scene wher Nadia confesses to stephan what she most likes:'poets, movies, and YOU'. And who wouldn't, I mean Lambert Wilson, who plays Stephan, is SOOOOO iresistible. He's a great actor and plays Stephan in fine manner.
