All the songs are tight and really really good. Anne Arbour and Mass Pike blew me away...i cant say anything bad about this album...not one thing was bad.

Good Emo-Punk, September 10, 2000
This review is from: Red Letter Day (Audio CD)
Yes, I know Get Up Kids aren't punk, but this EP is in the true spirit of that kind of rock. It is short, to the point, and features simple, fast(er) songs that make sense. Despite the fact that I am not a fan of this type of music, the Get Up Kids are excellent here, as always.
They are all great musicians, blending a ton of melodics with emo-y vocals and a talented rythmn section. The guitars are stunning, as well as the bass which can be heard well (surprisingly) through the sonic fence the guitars set up. The vocals are great, heartfelt, happy, and yet a little sad as well. The lyrics are good too, although a little kiddish at times "You're the one for, you're the one for me", but you get the point they are trying to get across.
The structure of each song is fairly good, but they do get a little repetative at times, especially the title track, which is my favorite but can get old quickly. "Anne Arbour" is a great song too, along with "Red Letter Day" and "One Year Later". The whole thing is listenable, but very simple. It is definitely worth checking out if you are new to the band, though. Once you buy it, you have to listen a little bit more to really get into the music.
Overall, it is definitely worth the money. It is a short, cheap EP of punkier emocore songs which serve as a superb intoduction to that kind of music in general. It is hard to say if you'll like it or not, but I really think you may, being that Get Up Kids cross more than two styles with each other and write great lyrics too. They could easily be on the radio, but aren't due to that aforementioned punk spirit. It's a good thing to pick up. Optimistic music. Also check out Face To Face, Jimmy Eat World, Braid, Alkaline Trio, and Promise Ring.

Great CD, May 5, 2000
This review is from: Red Letter Day (Audio CD)
You should buy this, ALL the songs are awesome. There is one drawback though: 11 bucks for five songs. Its up to you to decide whether or not it is worth it, but I JUST told you this cd is awesome, why aren't you buying it?
