What's Your Red Light Special?, October 28, 2008
This review is from: Red Light Special: A Novel (Paperback)
Well, newcomer Risque has done it again with her sophomore novel! She has spun a "whodunit" that will have the reader perched on the edge of their seat.
This whodunit introduces us to Kenyatta, the mayor of a large city and his intelligent as well as attractive wife, Monday...who is also the strategist behind him staying in the political arena. Then we become acquainted with the stunning and chic madam, Collyn and her stable of beautiful women. A mouth-wateringly fine brother by the name of Blessing Shields graces the pages of this vastly anticipated novel and he falls right into the arms of Collyn. Having said all of that, meet the other folks who play a noteworthy part of this story. There's Mekhi, who's fine and hott to trot, Hudson, a wanna be who will stop at nothing and Taryan who gets caught up in the Mayor's lustful web.
From the very first chapter this story travels quickly and takes the reader on an emotional rollercoaster sojourn. Travel with Kenyatta, Monday, Collyn and Bless ...where you will witness lust, sex, desire, unfaithfulness, greed, ignorance, sexual addiction and mostly the desire to be in control. And then hold on for this ride... for things are certain to shatter and fall apart.
Who/what causes these things to unravel? Will everyone get what his or her hand calls for? Is everyone, whom they say they are? What about that Red Light Special, they are desirous of? Does it come to fruition? Or are some things best left alone? Well, you already know that to find all of this out, you, must journey down this well traveled road and visit a while with Monday and Kenyatta, not forgetting about Blessing Shields and Collyn; along with Hudson, Mehki, Taryan, and the secrets that linger around and about.
Will these secrets be exposed or will exposure revealed these secrets? There is only one real way to find out ...you have to experience it for yourself. So step on in and take this ride...be prepared for a stopover and please make note of the fact that you will no longer be in control of emotions for; Risque and Red Light Special will handle all of that!
Again, Risque provides the reader with a wonderful, alluring, charming and enthralling read that only she seems to be able to do.
Hats off to you, Ms. Risque....again!

Risque' does it again..., January 9, 2009
This review is from: Red Light Special: A Novel (Paperback)
Sometimes I just need to kick myself for not signing up for the e-mails that alert me to new works by my favorite writers. I LOVED `The Sweetest Taboo' but I had NO IDEA her next book had hit the shelves. Here I am just clicking my life away on Amazon and I see this book and I'm like "what tha' hell"? There is it staring me in the face... this book! Well you know I had to get it and man-o-wow-o-man-o-good lawd-holy **!!! If the cover doesn't give you a hint as to what to expect then the page before the first chapter definitely will! And all this time I thought "K.P." stood for kitchen patrol! :-)
What I like about Risqué is her ability to have a story intertwined with all the pulse pounding (no pun intended) sex! Now when I saw "all the sex" I literally mean ALL THE SEX. 2009 has started out to being a pretty hot year as far as reading is concerned. Ha-ha! Amongst all the crazysexycool sex there is a ton and a half of drama. I liked how Risqué let the characters push back and act on their thoughts and ideas. Too many times I read characters that say one thing, swear up and down they'll never do it again, and then on the very next page...guess what? Monday is my girl through and through. I couldn't date or marry her crazy, scandalous, cheating tail but reading about her was just too much fun. Now she does take some crap but she gives just as much.
Her wanna-be-pimp-husband, the Mayor of New York is even a bigger screw up than she is. Led around by his smaller head he winds up in a situation from which he can't seem to escape. The people that he keeps close are not what they seem and you really have to pay attention to all of the stories within the story. Kenyatta, the Mayor, gets tied up in all kinds of illegal stuff and for some reason, gets all the woman and lovin' he can handle! It's true when they say that bad boys have more fun. In this story everyone has a secret, everyone has a freaky side, everyone is trying to get over, and everyone gets blindsided by something. Don't pass up this very good, very sexual, very sensual story!
