What's Your Red Light Special?,
By Chocolate Girl (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Red Light Special: A Novel (Paperback)
Well, newcomer Risque has done it again with her sophomore novel! She has spun a "whodunit" that will have the reader perched on the edge of their seat.
This whodunit introduces us to Kenyatta, the mayor of a large city and his intelligent as well as attractive wife, Monday...who is also the strategist behind him staying in the political arena. Then we become acquainted with the stunning and chic madam, Collyn and her stable of beautiful women. A mouth-wateringly fine brother by the name of Blessing Shields graces the pages of this vastly anticipated novel and he falls right into the arms of Collyn. Having said all of that, meet the other folks who play a noteworthy part of this story. There's Mekhi, who's fine and hott to trot, Hudson, a wanna be who will stop at nothing and Taryan who gets caught up in the Mayor's lustful web. From the very first chapter this story travels quickly and takes the reader on an emotional rollercoaster sojourn. Travel with Kenyatta, Monday, Collyn and Bless ...where you will witness lust, sex, desire, unfaithfulness, greed, ignorance, sexual addiction and mostly the desire to be in control. And then hold on for this ride... for things are certain to shatter and fall apart. Who/what causes these things to unravel? Will everyone get what his or her hand calls for? Is everyone, whom they say they are? What about that Red Light Special, they are desirous of? Does it come to fruition? Or are some things best left alone? Well, you already know that to find all of this out, you, must journey down this well traveled road and visit a while with Monday and Kenyatta, not forgetting about Blessing Shields and Collyn; along with Hudson, Mehki, Taryan, and the secrets that linger around and about. Will these secrets be exposed or will exposure revealed these secrets? There is only one real way to find out ...you have to experience it for yourself. So step on in and take this ride...be prepared for a stopover and please make note of the fact that you will no longer be in control of emotions for; Risque and Red Light Special will handle all of that! Again, Risque provides the reader with a wonderful, alluring, charming and enthralling read that only she seems to be able to do. Hats off to you, Ms. Risque....again!

Risque' does it again...,

This review is from: Red Light Special: A Novel (Paperback)
Sometimes I just need to kick myself for not signing up for the e-mails that alert me to new works by my favorite writers. I LOVED `The Sweetest Taboo' but I had NO IDEA her next book had hit the shelves. Here I am just clicking my life away on Amazon and I see this book and I'm like "what tha' hell"? There is it staring me in the face... this book! Well you know I had to get it and man-o-wow-o-man-o-good lawd-holy **!!! If the cover doesn't give you a hint as to what to expect then the page before the first chapter definitely will! And all this time I thought "K.P." stood for kitchen patrol! :-)
What I like about Risqué is her ability to have a story intertwined with all the pulse pounding (no pun intended) sex! Now when I saw "all the sex" I literally mean ALL THE SEX. 2009 has started out to being a pretty hot year as far as reading is concerned. Ha-ha! Amongst all the crazysexycool sex there is a ton and a half of drama. I liked how Risqué let the characters push back and act on their thoughts and ideas. Too many times I read characters that say one thing, swear up and down they'll never do it again, and then on the very next page...guess what? Monday is my girl through and through. I couldn't date or marry her crazy, scandalous, cheating tail but reading about her was just too much fun. Now she does take some crap but she gives just as much. Her wanna-be-pimp-husband, the Mayor of New York is even a bigger screw up than she is. Led around by his smaller head he winds up in a situation from which he can't seem to escape. The people that he keeps close are not what they seem and you really have to pay attention to all of the stories within the story. Kenyatta, the Mayor, gets tied up in all kinds of illegal stuff and for some reason, gets all the woman and lovin' he can handle! It's true when they say that bad boys have more fun. In this story everyone has a secret, everyone has a freaky side, everyone is trying to get over, and everyone gets blindsided by something. Don't pass up this very good, very sexual, very sensual story!

Scandalous!,

This review is from: Red Light Special: A Novel (Paperback)
Risque' did not disappoint in her anticipated novel, Red Light Special. Monday Smith appeared to have it all. As wife of the mayor of New York, she smiled when the cameras flashed, held babies with her husband, and appeared to not have a care in the world. But behind closed doors, her life was not as well as people expected. Kenyatta, her husband, had a serious infidelity issue. As if anonymous babies cropping up was not the kicker, Monday had to contend with a situation that was making her husband psychotic and her home life even more unlivable. Yet, he expected her to stay by his side as the good little politician's wife. What he did not know was Monday had her own secrets.
Collyn Bazemore inherited her mother's escort service and only employed top-notch girls. When Kenyatta Smith failed to attend a meeting with her, opting to send a partner in his place, Collyn felt uneasy yet captivated by the man who sat before her. Will she give in to temptation or follow her instincts? Risque wrote a book that will have readers on fire! The sex was beyond hot and the plot was beyond intense. Red Light Special is well-written, realistic, and will hold your attention to the very end. It was unpredictable and exciting; two things I love to see. I recommend Red Light Special to erotica lovers and those who are looking for a quick, scandalous read. Reviewed by Darnetta Frazier APOOO BookClub

Risque's second novel Red Light Special was a very entertaining and wonderful read! She is now on the list of my favorite authors! She takes her time creating colorful, exciting and unforgettable characters. The dialougue in this book is so intense and incredibly realistic it makes you a fly on the wall!
The Red Light Special starts off with a woman distraught and crying. She hides in a closet when she hears her lover coming in his apartment with another woman. She forces herself to sit there and watch him have sex with this woman before murdering her and running away. Who is this woman hiding in the closet? Kenyatta(one of the main characters) is the mayor of New York City and married to a beautiful woman name Monday. Monday puts up with the fact that her husband is arrogant, selfish and full of lies...and the fact that he is somewhat addicted to having sex with high class prostitutes and whores. But what he doesn't know is Monday has a secret of her own that he would have never expected. Collyn(my favorite character) is the madam of Red Light Special. She deals with an elite clientele and offer men the best sex in the city. Collyn has a no nonsense attitude and keeps everything and everyone on a professional level until she meets Blessing Shields. Her morals and professionalism goes out the window once they hook up, but what she doesn't know is that he has a secret that can change everything between them forever. Pick this book up and turn the pages as Kenyatta, Monday, Blessing and Collyn take you on a rollercoaster ride in New York City. This book has murder, love, suspense, plenty of hot sex and DRAMA! Risque definitely knows how to keep her readers entertained! Five stars is not enough to rate this book! RLS is a must read!! You'll have a hard time putting this one down until you have read the last page! Risque is a author you don't wanna sleep on. I love her creative and unique mind! She's dangerous with the pen, trust me!

This book was sooo good. I loved Kenyatta, the man with me magic stick. I read this book in a day, because I could not put it down. I did not think she could come back with anything that would be as good the Sweetest Taboo, but she did it again. This book was hot, like fire. I want to give my girl a hand, because she is bad. I can't wait until her next book.

Deliciously Erotic!,
This review is from: Red Light Special: A Novel (Paperback)
Monday Smith is the dutiful wife of New York mayor Kenyatta Smith, and she has a secret past that she's trying to keep hidden. But when her husband's extra-martial affairs leads to murder and lies, Monday has to decide if her marriage is worth saving. Collyn Bazemore is a Manhattan madam that deals with elite clientele. One of her best customers is Kenyatta, and he wants an exclusive erotic party in the Hamptons. But when Kenyatta sends his associate named Bless to close the deal, Collyn becomes suspicious. Bless is dangerously sexy and is interested in Collyn for more than just business. As Collyn ponders whether she should succumb to his advances, Bless has his own secrets that he doesn't want revealed.
Red Light Special is a deliciously erotic story by Risque. Risque expertly takes readers into the scandalous world of politics, sex, and murder. This story holds your attention from the very first page and won't let you go until the very last page. Risque once again displayed her supreme storytelling skills by giving readers an intriguing suspenseful story with a perfect erotica backdrop. No Risque novel would be complete without steamy jaw-dropping sex and head-spinning twists. Red Light Special is a spicy novel that will be a sure treat for readers.
