Product Description

Red Line's D4 Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) is Red Line's most popular and versatile ATF. D4 is suitable for use where Dexron III, Dexron II, or Mercon fluids are recommended. D4 ATF is a fully-synthetic product designed to satisfy the improved low-temperature requirements which will be in the new Dexron IV specification, and the improved shear-stability requirements which will be part of the new Mercon specifications. D4 ATF also provides a GL-4 level of gear protection, making it a superior product for transmissions and transaxles like the Corvette's T-56. The balanced frictional characteristics provide smooth and consistent shifts for extended drain intervals. The superior stability compared to petroleum ATFs allows high-temperature operation without varnishing valves and clutches which leads to transmission failure. It's stability allows high-temperature operation without varnishing valves and clutches. Also provides improved shifting in cold weather. Red Line Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluids are designed to provide improved thermal stability. The products identified as Synthetic ATF, Synthetic D4 ATF, and Synthetic C+ ATF have better thermal stability and lower volatility characteristics than a petroleum ATF and provides a much lower viscosity at lower temperatures, providing much quicker shifting in cold weather.

My 2000 Accord had started slipping at a bit over 100,000 miles, especially in 1st and 2nd gear. It ended up triggering the engine warning light. Took it into the dealership and they said the torque converter was going and that I needed to replace the transmission with a rebuilt to the tune of $4,500.

I did some research online and found out that Honda has had many problems with their post year 2000 transmissions in several vehicles, including the Accord. But several people had replaced their transmission fluid with Red Line D4 ATF and also installed an inline Magnefine AFT filter. (Honda's ATF filter is internal to the transmission and is not changeable.) Seeing that many others had good results, I figured the $50-60 for the price of an full ATF change it was worth a try.

Immediately after doing a full fluid replacement (and I mean the very first drive) I noticed a dramatic improvement in the shifting. I almost couldn't not feel the car shift at all anymore and could only tell by the engine noise and tach. I don't recall the transmission every shifting that smoothly. I cleared the engine light/warning code, and have been driving fine ever since. That was over 3,000 miles ago.

I've since done a D&R on my 2008 Odyssey and also noticed that the sifting is much smoother. So glad to have found out that this was a possible solution and avoided the complete transmission replacement. Saved me over $4,000. I'm planning on a D&R on each vehicle each time I do a standard oil change. 2-3 quarts/change is very cheap insurance against replacing a transmission.

I don't review many items, but I'm so pleased with the results of this product, I had to give it kudos.

hi guys.......toyota uses good fluids from the factory.....when you change to red line......you will notice your tranny running better.....every year i do 10,000 miles.....i have a drain plug on my toyota solara so i drop what comes out of the pan only.... usually 3 quarts.....and i replace it with red line synthetic.....$30 dollars a year and my tranny smells and performs better than new....always pink and a strong odor.....this is the best way to keep your tranny new.....if you dont follow this and wait for the color to change to darker and no odor then your tranny is wearing out sooner than later....i have other things to do with $2000 dollars than replace my tranny....i also use mobil 1 in the oil...there are other quality brands out there that may work as well.....i can speak for RED LINE only....the bomb....i will never use anything else......$30 a year and my car is happy........joey

I was kinda worried about putting non-honda transmission fluid in my civic. From reading many various honda forums, honda automatics usual don't do well with non-factory tranny fluid. However, several of the members stated that they had good experience using D4 in their civics so I decided to get it a try. After using D4, my tranny immedately started shifting smoother. After about 2000 miles so far, I couldn't be happier, the tranny is performing like when it was new. I'm very happy with this product.

The Redline D4 ATF is highly regarded by Honda enthusiasts for their fragile automatic transmissions (at least generation 6/7). The Redline ATF is not readily found in my locale, so Amazon was a good choice, although still expensive. The Redline D4 is held as a quality synthetic and is supposed to be more stable than the Honda Z1 or new DW-1 ATFs. I performed the Honda flush - three drain/refill cycles and seemed to notice a more smooth action. This vehicle has a good many miles and hopefully will provide continued reliable service.

Remember: the Honda V6 has a fill port (17mm capscrew) on the drivers side top of transmission, with ATF stamped on the screw head. Four cylinder ATF addition is done through the dip stick port.

What can I say? I have nothing but praise for this stuff. I bought my 2004 Acura TL in August and really haven't been able to enjoy it since then because a week after my purchase, I was told by a small shop that my transmission was on its way out. I've been babying the car since then, and keeping my fingers crossed during the several 250 mile trips I've made to my hometown. I didn't have many symptoms, except the occasional chatter, RPM fluctuation, etc. I narrowed it down to the torque converter, then did some research. After replacing the 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches and noticing a little difference, I decided to do more research. Then I heard about this stuff...
Oh man, was it ever worth the $130 investment! I first got the car jacked up, and loosened the drain. I'm not kidding, I don't think my fluid has been changed in the 107,000 miles on the car. It was pretty dark, and although there was no "sludge," I wasn't happy with the consistency of the old fluid. I spent a couple hours doing the 3x3 fluid change. First of all, it's a comforting feeling knowing I've got clean, fresh, red fluid in there. Secondly, HOLY CRAP! The car drives like it's brand new! No more "gear guessing" or chatter or anything! Shifts are smooth, clean, crisp, etc. I didn't realize how sloppy the shifts had become until I replaced the fluid with this stuff. If you're even contemplating trying this stuff out, DO IT! Thank you, Red Line, for allowing me to begin enjoying my dream car!!!
