Niizh Makwa (Two Bears) a.k.a. L. Joseph Belgarde, Jr., was born in 1978 in North Dakota, where he is an enrolled member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Ojibwe. Raised on the reservation, from its somber wilderness to its mean streets, his unique and powerful poetic mind erupted at an early age. Inspired by the beauty, the hope, the struggle, and the pride that is “Rez Life,” his muse was this, the very life that he lived.
