Book Description

Many years have passed since the Great War that destroyed over three quarters of the world’s population. Now, humans and supernaturals alike have learned how to survive in the new world. For Avery Hendrin, the eldest daughter of the man who brought light back to the world, life has taken a turn for the worse. Sold into slavery after her father’s death, Avery’s only concern is keeping her younger sister safe. Branded as a witch and rejected by her own kind because of her red hair, Avery resigns herself to a life in the slave house until a chance meeting with a powerful Lycan named Tristan Williams.

Although Tristan does not believe the human’s tales of the Reds being witches, he has no need for Avery. He’s in search of a nanny for his young children and after an impassioned plea from the redhead, agrees to hire her younger sister as his nanny. However, his beloved daughter Sophia has an immediate connection with Avery and Tristan cannot deny her request to purchase Avery as well, despite the discord it will bring to his household.

Struggling to accept her new life as a slave and to ignore her almost immediate attraction to Tristan, Avery tries to hide her healing powers from him but exposes her gift when she saves Tristan’s adopted brother from death.

Tristan believes his obsession with Avery is nothing more than lust. Determined to bed her despite her strange powers, will he convince her to accept her new life or give her the freedom she craves?

2.0 out of 5 stars Avery' s character started out strong September 18, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
And she swiftly went downhill from there. She claimed she refused to wallow in self-pity, but during most of the story that's all she did, to the point of being nauseating.
Tristan' s character was lacking as well for allowing so many opportunities to be a true "alpha male" to pass him by. Why would he reward someone for saving both his children, his best friend, and his mother by selling her off? An appreciative, stand up guy should've granted her freedom, and maybe a small cottage on the far side of his property!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved It! September 5, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
4 1/2-5 stars. Really enjoyed it. I liked the heroine a lot--she was strong, didn't care what other people felt about her, and went through A LOT. The reason this book wasn't a solid 5 stars for me was because the hero, clearly a possessive alpha male (wolf-whatever) did nothing to stop the abuse the heroine a was suffering from members of his staff--and he knew what was going on. I get that she was purchased as a slave, but this did not sit right with me. One this that I found different about this book was the time period of which is was written. I kept forgetting it takes place in the future after a "great war". The people speak almost in a medieval way with "my Lord", they travel by carriage, and the women wear "shifts" as undergarments--but then like zippers and twinkle lights are mentioned. I personally didn't mind this, just felt it was interesting. With all things considered, I really did like this book and would recommend it.

2.0 out of 5 stars could have been better September 25, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Cute story and not many typos. But the author did a very poor job of creating interesting ware wolves. They may as well been human men. Who needs a horse to chase after some one when you can change into a wolf and go yourself? And there was plenty of opportunity to use his sense of smell like when they couldn't find the little girl playing hide and seek. Not really interested in any more of the books by this author. I like my furry heroes on the awesome side.

5.0 out of 5 stars Consumed by this story! September 2, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I read an excerpt of this book at the end a novella from the same author. I loved the premise of the story, so I downloaded it this morning, started reading early afternoon became totally engrossed by the story, couldn't stop reading and finished it later that night! I was so consumed by this story from the very beginning, I couldn't stop reading, and unfortunately nothing got accomplished in my home today. This book had everything that I love in a romance novel. Two strong lead characters in Avery and Tristan. Avery has been shunned all of her life because she is a Red, but she never let who she is break her spirit. She is forceful, she stands up for her principals, and she is kind and gentle. Tristan is the perfect alpha male without being too domineering. I loved the secondary characters in Sophia, Maya, Marshall, etc. They balanced out the novel, and provided more insight into the main characters. Last, but not least the sex scenes were hot! I hate romance novels that have tepid, lukewarm, or closed door sex scenes. I loved the forbidden love aspect of this story. There were several times when I was crying because I knew how much Avery loved Tristan and she knew that because they were different they were not supposed to be together. I'm really glad that the author did not overpower and put the main focus on the paranormal aspect of the novel. I was ready to read it again after I finished it. I'm so glad that I discovered this author, and I can't wait to read her next book.

2.0 out of 5 stars meh December 23, 2013

Interesting idea for a story but didn't deliver. Why have a group of werewolves be part of the story if it wasn't going to matter. Do you really need a horse to chase after someone if you can change into a large wolf? I kept waiting for the hero to buy a clue and at one point he might have but there is never any reference to him changing or growing again. Its like the author was testing out a lot of different ideas but never fully developed any of them. Not enough interest for me to continue reading any more in this series

1.0 out of 5 stars injustice September 2, 2013

Couldn't stand the injustice in the story..I keep on hoping that the situation will get better or someone will wake up and realize what's really going on. I have never been irritated with the hero before but this one takes the cake..

3.0 out of 5 stars I's ok September 8, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The story is easy read. There were lots of sex so there were not much dialogues exchanged between the hero and heroine. If I didn't read the author's book Tempted, the sex scenes would have been exciting read but they were like paste-and-copy from her previous book. Even some characters' lines were the same. The h an h seemed to chase each other in a circle: had sex, must not see each other again, met, had sex again, must not see each other and on.
This book needs editing that's it if you don't really mind the missing commas, full stops and question marks in the sentences.

2.0 out of 5 stars post war distopia world moves into medievil era January 6, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
started out interesting but ended up being predictable and unsatisfying as our heroine is at once both the daughter of the richest most influential man of their time and a slave right after his death; she does healing and saves others only to be spurned for her red hair witchery; she fears rape but condones casual sex; she stops her life to protect her younger sister and her younger sister isn't really that impressed; the alpha wolf doesn't behave very alpha... just not much to really say here except the editing was pretty good.
