4.0 out of 5 stars Not What You Anticipate, That's A Good Thing, March 8, 2005

This review is from: Red Printz (Audio CD)
Here's the second teaser EP from New South Wales' own Chris Colonna collaboration The Bumblebeez. A few problems have continued from August's White Printz namely Chris' vocals which are still quite distorted and unsettling and most tracks don't fully explore themselves with eight tracks clocking in under twenty minutes but their sound is still hard to ignore and quite infecting. ViLa's skills improve here on the EP high point "Rappa" which features one of the sickest baselines ever produced by white men.

It's another fine cross-section of grunge-hop, abstract punk, and trip-hop with all its avante garde responsibilities intact, ending with liquid funk on "Come Ova." It'll be something to see how they cope with putting together a full length with real equipment. While Colonna sits on a cache of 600 some odd tracks in various states of completion, the Beez are surely one to look out for in 2004. Hopefully, and as much as I enjoyed Since I Left You, Colonna won't venture into easy listening turtablism like the Avalanches progressed to after their hip-hop phase but, if the shoddy lyrics are any indication, he likes it as rough as it is.
