2.0 out of 5 stars Early Mark Millar, And It Shows, November 28, 2008

This review is from: Red Razors (Paperback)
RED RAZORS presents some of popular comic-book Writer Mark Millar's early work from Britan's 2000 A.D. comic. Set in the world of JUDGE DREDD, Millar introduces us to Judge Razors, a Judge in Sov-Block Two. As part of Sov-Block Two's Judge program, dangerous offenders are caught, subjected to Brain surgery to erase their criminal tendencies, and made into Judges. (Following Mega-City One's model, Judges are basically Police Officers empowered to be Cop, Judge, Jury, and often, executioner.)

RED RAZORS collects two complete story arcs, and one related short story. The first arc is Millar at his worst, filled with rambling, strange ideas that go nowhere, awful puns, and atrocious, flat art. The second arc, where Razors breaks programming and goes on a homicidal rampage, is much better, and an indication of where Millar would take his Writing in years to come: Fast-paced, widescreen action. I'd recommend RED RAZORS only for Millar fans who simply must have everything he's written. To everyone else, I'd say take a pass.
