Editorial Reviews

Red Revelations is a work of rare accomplishment and abandon, brimming with barely-contained emotions and urges. They are pervasive in the music, the voice and the songwriting. ÿEverett's music evokes the complex, vividly emotional and often over-heated works of Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ray Charles, Jim Morrison and Marvin Gaye, among others, precisely because it so plainly springs from the same sources of inspiration, contradiction and risk. Indiana-born and Texas-raised Everett's upbringing in the evangelical church, and his far-flung travels are apparent in his songs. All of this accounts for Everett's unique resonance: on record, on stage and combined with the visual work of other creative minds, which is set to propel him towards a big future. Jace Everett's voice is beautiful and growly; a dark, smoky, rich thunder that makes my face twitch gleefully. Some songs are thick and howly (One of Them), others slow and sensuous (Damned If I Do), and some paint scenes that are simultaneously distant and intimate (The Good Life).

This is what country music is supposed to be.

This is the heat and sweat, the thick air of the south, the bass and beat that filters out into the parking lot of a smoke-filled bar. This is the music of open-windowed road trips in beat-up trucks held together with duct tape and a prayer. This is the illicit love child of religious fervor and heated passions.

This is the good stuff.

I've just returned from a showcase for Jace and I have to say, I've already been hooked on Red Revelations for a while, so I CANNOT recommend it enough- even more so now. I work in the music industry and while I can at times be one of those 'LA jaded types,' it's really a pleasure when you run into an artist you can really crawl out of your snoothole and shout out about. Jace really delivers with this project. He opened with my favorite track "The Good Life," who's witty lyrics and catchy melody weave a deliciously imaginative daydream.

Yes, I am a fan of True Blood. Read the books, now hooked on the show and love his theme and intro (and Nathan Barr's beautiful score). I know, I know, "Bad Things" is great, but take my advice, for the price Amazon is offering, give this artist a chance and I guarantee you'll be loving the entire album just as much. My personal faves are "The Good Life," "One Of Them," "Little Black Dress" and "Burn For You." One of the best "Slip Away" (or what I kindly refer to as the 'Mop Song' as after listening to Jace's sultry vocals and Dan Cohen on slide guitar, ah ladies you'll get it), cuts through dark, foreboding lyrics to leave you with a feeling of hypnotic euphoria. *Sigh*

Any of you that are into really good music, think Chris Issak + Steve Earle, add some southern-soaked twangy, gritty, sexy sultry attitude and you've got Jace - an original in himself. The songwriting, execution and production of Red Revelations equals an effort that leaves many other releases I've tracked in the dust.

Just do it...

I enjoyed Jace Everett's first CD, but I have to say I think I like this one better. While his first CD had some good songs, it was closer to the mainstream sounds you here on the radio. In Red Revelations, his sound is all his own.
The music has much more of a blues vibe. His voice does some interesting things and takes a darker edge as do the lyrics.
If you discovered his music through the HBO series True Blue (Bad Things is the opening song), then you will most likely like the album as the songs are much in the same style. And if you aren't sure, you can go to his website and listen to some of the tracks and decide for yourself.

I really liked his first album, but I'm not a huge country fan and it's a little more classic country than I like. This album though? It's pure dark, bluesy, sexy goodness. It's pretty much been on my ipod's endless loop since I got it. The man can sing, the man can emote, the man was made for dark sweaty nights on the dance floor.

Honestly, in the "What 5 albums would you take to a desert island?" game, this is definitely one my picks.

Give him a chance. "Bad Things" was not a fluke. If you liked that song, you'll LOVE this album. I'm really looking forward to when he's known for more than being the TrueBlood guy and gets recognized for his other work.

I am a huge fan of HBOs series "True Blood" and its theme song "Bad Things". I loved the song so much I researched websites until I found one that sold an entire CD by Jace Everett. Well, I found it and I love it so much Ive nearly worn a hole in it playing it in my truck. I love that Jace is so versatile and his music just puts me a great mood as I'm traveling. Without a doubt, track "Damned if I do" is one of the sexiest songs I've ever heard. I would recommend this CD to anyone that loves "Bad Things"! Every track on it is excellent listening. When are ya gonna come see us here in ST Louis for a live performance, Jace!! Please do!

I love, love, love this cd!! I purchased it for the True Blood Theme "Bad Things" and I am a bit disappointed in the recording of that particular song. It was mixed different from the opening credits of the show. But the rest of the cd is pretty great!

I have to admit my first intro to Jace Everett was perhaps 2 months ago when a friend could not stop raving about 'Bad Things' the theme song from the HBO show True Blood. I gave it a listen, and became hooked. So I surfed a bit more and got Jace's first CD, became more impressed with his voice and music. 2 weeks ago a friend pointed out to me he would be playing live in San Francisco and I thought why not go see him with a few friends in a small bar, a rather intimate setting. It was just Jace and his guitarist Dan on the small stage and they played all the new songs to Red Revelations. Holy good God! The music smoked and they ROCKED! I bought the CD that night and haven't stopped playing it since then. I can say I truly liked EVERY SINGLE SONG. Lots of versatility in music and voice- My take of the style is a Bluesy Americana- a bit of blues, a bit of rock and a bit of country- most will have you wanting to get up and dance or at the very least tapping your toes and rocking in your seat. Each song has the listener captivated, and yes, Bad Things is included on this CD as well (Trust me, all the other songs will be just as captivating). I promise you , this CD will not disappoint you -this CD definitely deserves a 5 star rating if ever one did!
