Red Riding 1983 is a great story. It is the third and final installment in the Red Riding trilogy. The only knock on this installment is that it had to end. I don't want to advocate for resumption of the circumstances at the heart of this film (not sure if this was a smooth way to dance around spoilers, but fairly sure it was effective) but I wish there was more. Probably best if you see the first two installments, but if not I can make a case while this film could be a stand alone.
First, it shouldn't take too long to catch on to what the common thread is. It sort of hits you in the gut, and makes you sick Second, the film concludes the story, so unlike catching the second episode before the others watching the third at least delivers resolution. Third, and most important, I can see why 18th Century America was angry at the English if they were anything like the modern England. Hiding David Morrissey was a crime. I can't believe my first introduction to this amazing actor was The Walking Dead. It turns out I did see him briefly in some other films but it wasn't until Walking Dead that I caught a glimpse of how good he is. It turns out he does legit Shakespeare, not the Ethan Hawke kind. Mr. Morrissey is clearly a professional. If you watch Walking Dead watch Red Riding and try and figure out which character Morrissey plays. If you know his work from the Walking Dead and come in looking for anything resembling the Governor you will miss him. Looking for the funny and quick witted real David from interviews? Not here either. He is so involved in this role he becomes this character. The preparation and research he undertook must have been hellish. I can't imaging how long it must have taken to effectively become the character he is playing. He exudes Jobsonism. He is that good.

this movie is gritty and realistic - the story line is good but the filming leaves much to be desired
