A response to the hack named Geoffrey Himes,
By A Customer
This review is from: Red Road (Audio CD)
The review by Geoffrey Himes is far from accurate. It is amusing that he uses "hackneyed" and "heavy-handed" to describe the music and lyrics on Bill's finest recording, The Red Road, that includes "Tumbleweed", "Faith of a Child", and "Trail of Freedom". The CD is actually one of the best folk/country recordings ever made by a First Nations' artist. "Faith of a Child" is, perhaps, one of the most evocative and inspiring songs ever written about physical disability. The production work by Richard Bennett is flawless. But, hell, ole Geoffrey Himes is probably an insensitive lout who begrudges anyone this type of meaningful sentimentality. Judging from his "hackneyed" reviews in No Depression magazine and the Washington Post, I suspect that both he and I should remember the old adage: "Don't say anything at all about someone if you don't have something good to say." What do you think, Geoffrey? Forget this guy's review. Go buy it; you'll like it.

"the red road" is the kind of cd that you can listen for ever without never getting bored... "reservation road","tumbleweed","faith of a child" are probably the three best songs ever written by Bill miller... the arrangements are simple but beautiful, the sound is incredible (especially on the instrumental track 1). if you like folk music and acoustic guitar, this cd is for you, it's worth it !

Bill Miller is an awesome artist. I recommend his cds for anyone...just to relax to in the morning (Kokopelli's Journey) or to really get the blood pumping (The Intertribal Powwow). And "Memories of Wounded Knee" came from his heart and landed right in mine. This album is a must for anyone interested in good music.

I not only have this music in my collection, but have had the experience of seeing Bill Miller in action. His music comes from his soul. It reaches out and grabs your heart. This CD is a must for anyone who appreciates the multi-layered talents of Bill Miller, or who loves Native music in general. I never tire of listening to his voice or his music.

One Great Album!,

I've heard Bill Miller play live three times since 1991. I must say he is one of the most inspirational artists i've heard. The Red Road contains songs from some of his previous albums (unfortunatly not available here) and some which are new, including native american flute music and chants. A great mix of songs with native american instruments and songs with acoustic guitar melodies. Regardless of what instrument Bill Miller is playing, he plays from the heart. An incredible songwriter and an incredible album!

Totally Fantastic,

The Red Road is true and powerful. It cuts straight to your soul.
I can't say enough good about this. It moved me emotionally in a way that hardly ever happens. Faith Of A Child had me in tears. Bill Miller is unbelievably great at getting the emotion of his subject matter to the listener. I never get tired of listening to this.

BUY THIS BILL MILER CD FIRST. THEN BUY THE REST,

This CD is a stunning achievement. The song "Reservation Road" is a 3 minute summary of Native American history since the coming of Europeans. But its not preachy or strident. Just beautiful, haunting. My daughter took a number of Bill Miller's CD's to a college class in Native American spirituality. The professor loved his work and ended up buying "The Red Road"-- which is the Native name for the spiritual path. Also check out Bill's new CD, "Ghostdance", for a contemporary treatment of the Ghostdance and what it means to our country's first citizens. A very talented musician.

This was the first music I had listened to from this artist. Trail of Freedom and Dreams of Wounded Knee are both excellent. Faith of a Child brought me to tears.I love the way Bill mixes guitar and flute with an upbeat sound. He blends a beautiful balance of Powwow drumming with his words and music. I have since bought several more of his CD's and they are all very well composed. Will buy more as he releases his work.
