Classic Doc, November 4, 2000

Picking a favorite Doc Watson album is impossible, really, but this one's near the top of my personal list. As always, he chooses great songs (Tom Paxton's tribute to John Hurt is the standout here), and the picking is consistently great and crisply recorded. Merle Watson on bottleneck guitar is in particularly fine form.

Red Rocking Chair is a must have for lovers of folk music. Doc and Merle are at their best - only better to have been able to see them in person!
