Book Description

April 1, 2002
First there was Bogey and Bacall, then Butch and Sundance. Now Red and Rover have taken center stage as the most captivating twosome around. Ten-year-old Red and his faithful canine companion, Rover, forged their fellowship in a gentler time, when friends were forever and loyalty was unquestioned. Red and Rover have an endearing partnership that brings them-and the strip's lucky readers-a measure of pure delight.Created by Brian Basset (whose Adam@Home strip has been syndicated since 1984,) Red and Rover appeals to countless fans who appreciate its focus on friendship. Red's 17-year-old brother, Martin, plays the foil, while Red's parents, Carol and Charlie, attempt to keep everything running smoothly. It's an ideal cast of characters. This first Red and Rover book wraps up this extraordinary friendship between boy and dog in an ideal package for everyone who appreciates the sweetness of a simpler time.

About the Author

After attending Ohio State University, where he lampooned state and student politics as a political cartoonist for the school paper, Brian Basset landed a "tryout" as an editorial cartoonist for the Seattle Times, a job which lasted 16 years. In 1994, he began to devote himself full-time to his comic strip Adam. A self-professed "retro" kind of guy, Basset launched Red and Rover in 2000. He lives and works outside of Seattle, Wash.

5.0 out of 5 stars Charming and fun, May 1, 2002
By
This review is from: Red and Rover: A Boy, A Dog, A Time, A Feeling (Paperback)
At first glance I thought this was just a Calvin & Hobbes ripoff. And there is a resemblance. But the difference is vital - the dog. This strip is first and foremost about the relationship between a boy and his dog. Anyone who loved a dog as a child, or wanted to, will be drawn into this charming strip.

And just as Rover is a real dog, Red is a real boy. He has an obnoxious big brother, wants to be an astronaut, and has a crush on Marcia Brady.

After a while you'll realize that Red and Rover live in the past - somewhere in the seventies if fashion is any indication. It's by design. This strip is imbued with the nostalgia for a better, simpler time.

Give R&R a shot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Red & Rover, October 23, 2002

This review is from: Red and Rover: A Boy, A Dog, A Time, A Feeling (Paperback)
Red & Rover will bring back treasured memories of time spent with your own 4 legged friend. Red & Rover is to the love felt between "Man" & his true best friend as Diblert is to the business world. The stories are for all ages (0-99). Rover is a cross between lassie, snoopy, and rin-tin-tin. If you are a reader of the series you should get this book. If you have not read the series you will start reading it after reading this book and become a fan. This book provides the first meeting betweed Red and Rover. I have purchased 3 copies: one to read, one to save, and one to loan. After reading this book you will be hooked and look at your current coompanion with more understanding.

My only wish is that all the strips would be published.
