4.0 out of 5 stars A light, happy read
Barbara Miller may not win any awards for literary greatness with this short story, but should earn many kudos for providing a light, happy romance. A quick, easy story to read, this story lacks some substance, and will appeal mostly to fans of romance or chick lit, but that does not devalue the story. It is what it is, a brief journey into the world of handsome...

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute-ish little costume romance, no sex
Decent, formulaic little romantic short story, set in some undefined part of the past when women wore fancy hats, about a girl with red hair who loves horses and a guy who comes to court her. It's fairly cute and sweet for what it is. The closest it comes to sex is when she flashes a "trim ankle."

Barbara Miller may not win any awards for literary greatness with this short story, but should earn many kudos for providing a light, happy romance. A quick, easy story to read, this story lacks some substance, and will appeal mostly to fans of romance or chick lit, but that does not devalue the story. It is what it is, a brief journey into the world of handsome suitors, pretty maids, and beautiful horses. In a world where happy endings are harder to find, this story is a welcome chance to believe again, if only for a little while. I would be encouraged to seek out and read other works by this author.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute but missing, January 26, 2011

This was a cute story, but it's missing character. They go from just meeting then suddenly to the end of the story. There is no conflict or anything to grasp your attention. When it start to grab you the story is over. It doesn't need sex, but it does need more evolving of characters and not leave the reader hanging at the end.

I have to say that again, in case you missed it, "Ridiculous lack of substance". I am no book-snob, but this and every book in this series is just literary (use that word loosely) porn marketed toward females. To call it anything else is just a waste of time. So, if you're looking for some free porn disguised as an e-book for your Kindle, congratulations, you're home. Otherwise - run.

Plot Summary: Dad wants ex-soldier son to marry wealthy friend's daughter. Son goes to meet her, even though he's afraid she'll be boring. She turns out to be very exciting, but hates him because she thinks he's only there to ask for her hand so that he can get her horses out of it. After one day of spending time together, he professes that it's her he wants, and not the horses. He asks her to marry him, she says yes, the end.

No background on the characters, almost no interaction between them to lead up to them "loving" each other. Nothing that makes you actually care about them enough to give a crap if he wants her or the horses. NO mention really at all about red satin (maybe her hair was red, but I cared so little about her that I can't remember...)

It's a cute little story but it was missing something even without the sex it still could have been a short quick good read. Devon seemed unsexy I didn't connect with him and Selina mature level did not appeal to me hence her being sooooooooooo young. I can appreciate a short novella but to sum it up it was basically too simple for me tthis one was not for me give it a try maybe you will feel differently.

PS: this is an Ellora's Cave publishing what a Debbie downer because Ellora's Cave have a lot of good erotica romance novels and this one didn't do it for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars cute, regency romp, April 27, 2011
This review is from: Red Satin (Kindle Edition)
The only criticism I have is that the story line is condensed into a short story. I would love to see more stories in full length. Content was very good for this genre.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sweet, but short, January 25, 2011

I thought the story was good, but did not have enough detail. It was too short. I enjoyed it but was a little disappointed that the end came so soon. Good for a quick read.
