it's a shame this is the only ISIS they have on amazon...,

becuase out of this, their newest full length "celestial", their older ep "mosquito control", and the sawblade ep, this is my least favorite isis release.however, it's still awesome. ignore the guy who said these guys sound like the dillinger escape plan, if anything, they're the opposite. instead of every song being a race to see which band member can finish the song first, isis attack you by SLOWLY building up mammoth riffs until they reach the point of impact and then release a wall of sound. every person on the planet seems to compare these guys to neurosis, but there is no way neurosis (although a GREAT band) could ever make something as heavy as these guys. this album is still great just because of the title track, which is one of the heaviest songs i've ever heard in my life. buy this cd, then buy the rest of their stuff and say to yourself "wow, this is even better than the red sea". if you like this, i'd say check out neurosis (if you haven't already!), ire, and bloodlet.

GET IT NOW,

An amazing work by Isis. They are the best band, ever. There's breaks and intros, there's guitar work that's dizzying, pounding, and droning at once, there's weird noises and effects, there's pummeling vocals in an artistic and musical manner. The title track is the best song you have ever heard in your life. The secnd half of the album is the demo previous to this album. I can't believe how good it is. Hardcore fans, metal fans, even if you don't like music at all, buy this album, it's amazing.

Everything ISIS does is Good,

This is Isis' third relase and its not as good as i would have expected, its too short. The first 3 tracks are the new stuff whereas the last 4 are from they're orginal demo from 97 or 98 (which makes this album worth getting) the 3 tracks are good, especially the title track. the demo songs are wonderful but the production is bad. i would have to recommend getting their second ep, mosquito control from escape artist records. anyway this album is not they're best but still excellent.

In honor of Isis's most recent release, Wavering Radiant, I figured I'd go back in time and give a review for The Red Sea.
This was Isis's last album as a four-piece with a single guitar and hence, still in the "hard & heavy" sound they started off with on Mosquito Control. The difference is that the production for the actual EP part of it was very well polished and did a lot to capture the essence of the band. The title track is what stood out the most, but the first three "EP" songs were consistent with each other and did well to produce the listener with the musical equivalent of a short form story. Now, the latter songs of the album were demo versions of earlier songs. The recording for those are pretty haggard sounding. Specifically, it sounds like someone put a microphone in the middle of a room and hit record; there are points where the fidelity gets lost. But man alive, does it ever give you an honest introspective of what an up-and-coming band does in order to start the processes of getting by. That's something that I think I appreciate more as a result of playing music than if I were just a regular music fan. This is what these guys were doing in a time where everyone was trying to be the next Limp Bizkit and in the end, it only furthered their preservation as a band. I recommend it to Isis fans and people who'd want to check out what proto-post metal would sound like.

Isis rox.,

First of all, these guys are nothing like Dillinger Escape Plan. However, Neurosis comparisons are valid. Both bands rock the mid-tempo and represent with long, repetitive songs. I love both bands and in my opinion the difference between them is a matter of non-stop brutality vs textured composition. Isis comes at you head on with crazy chuggchuggachugga stylings that make you want to break stuff. Neurosis has that brutality but they'll mix it up with some other tricks now and then. If you don't own any Neurosis or Isis, I recommend both wholeheartedly.
