A self -crafted life, May 31, 2009
This review is from: The Red Shoes: On Torment and the Recovery of Soul Life (Audio CD)
This is is an amazing story that illustrated the importance in understanding the need for self-crafting one's own life. Sometimes, if we are not careful the wish for an easier life can take us to places we later regret. This story and analysis held the interest of my 16-year old son and at the end its all he wanted to talk about for hours afterwards.

Clarissa Pinkola Estes is wonderful and I love this cd more than any of her other work. I also love Warming the Stone Child.

Listening with your inner ear, September 19, 2010
This review is from: The Red Shoes: On Torment and the Recovery of Soul Life (Audio CD)
Those who have read Dr C.P.Estes "Women Who Run With The Wolves" already know the story this recording is based on. But the quality of listening to it in spoken word is unparalleled. First of all, you can hear what the author stresses in order to understand the meaning of the story better. Second, it's easier to digest on a deeper level of psyche, with your inner ear. Third, it has an artistic quality to it, what you hear is supposed to touch your senses, wake up your consciousness, especially when Dr Estes sings a song in intervals between every part and in the end of this recording. And she does it so breathtakingly, not only because it is sang with clear and well-trained voice, but her song also contains a poetical description of what was just said.
Of course it is best to listen to it at home, in peace and quietude, but I also tried to take it outside with me on my iPod and it worked wonders. You go into the outer world with a calm voice in your ears which helps to perceive your surroundings without losing the conscious center.
Dr Estes' works are not for everyone. If you expect easy solutions to your problems given to you in one quick dose, you should consider a different author maybe. This has nothing to do with pop psychology. You must be willing to go deep and prepare yourself for listening to/reading it over and over again before it clicks inside of you, before you'll be able to apply this wisdom to your individual self. The main advantage is, however, that the recording helps with this process like anything else.
