glass / silicone baster,

This was the only glass and silicone (or stainless steel and silicone) - no nylon, no plastic - I could find on Amazon that didn't cost a crazy amount. I don't use a baster terribly often. But I still wanted one that wouldn't dissolve funny plastic chemicals into my hot food. I was worried about the other reviewer's complaint about the silicone not fitting onto the glass well, but luckily mine didn't have the problem. And the glass part only went to that narrow spot on the silicone and wasn't shoved way in.
The glass doesn't seem too fragile, though it's not heavy duty, either. But works for me. It sucks up chicken stock just fine, and if you hold it still above the pot, maybe one drop, if any, falls out. But if you shake it a few inches up and down, a good bit of liquid will come out with each shake. Just like other basters I've had. But, I don't care, works plenty well for me for what I need and for my frequency and for my price sensitivity. And let me whip out my trusty caliper... The glass is about .75mm (.03 in) thick at the tip, the opening at the tip is about 3.3mm (1/8 in), and the outside diameter of the glass area is about 1 inch (25.4 mm). The glass tube is about 8 inches long (203 mm).

I looked all over for a glass baster. The old one I had cracked after many years of faithful service.
This one looked good on paper - a glass baster with a silicone bulb. The two pieces are not manufactured for each other. The bulb simply doesn't fit the glass. As a result, the baster comes assembled with the bulb pushed way down onto the glass to get a seal. The glass piece should be bigger in diameter. Also, the mouth of the baster is relatively large. This is great if you are worried about using the baster with fluids that have chunks of shtuff in it. But with just fluids, you get a lot of leakage in transport and this limits the baster's versatility. I used a hose clamp to secure a seal between the tube and the bulb, which gives it a nice frankenstein appearance. This item is better suited for the 99-cent store than amazon. What a piece of crap.

Try a glass baster and you will never use a plastic one again! We have been using it for several weeks now and it has been working great.
It cleans up nicely, and feels good in your hand.
