4.0 out of 5 stars A hot and sexy romance, February 7, 2009
This review is from: Red Sky (Indigo Love Spectrum) (Mass Market Paperback)
Justine Roberts-Paretti is a photojournalist with a fearless, adventurous and inquisitive spirit. It is her sense of adventure and her love of the Native American culture and artifacts that leads her to Gallup, New Mexico, for the Intertribal Ceremonial Powwow-- and into the arms of one Darrius Red Sky. Darrius is the tall and sexy owner of Red Sky Jewelers. His sexy good looks, unlimited knowledge of his culture and his mystic combine to make him irresistible to Justine. Can Darrius tame Justine's fearlessness, or will her inquisitive spirit lead her to her death?

Justine has known since she was a child that she wanted to be a photographer, and has let anything deter her from her goal. When she meets Darrius she realizes that she has never known what it's like to be loved by her soul mate. Darrius, who posses' some psychic abilities, has been praying to the elders and the universe for answers regarding his life and his soul mate. He is taken aback by Justine's beauty the moment she enters his store. Justine and Darrius are two independent and successful people who both need to learn the meaning of compromise. Both have to learn to overcome past hurts and fears, and learn to embrace each other's stubbornness. Justine's best-friend and Darrius' twin help them to realize what is really important in their lives.

RED SKY is a beautiful and historical trip through the Native American culture. Ms. Alexis does a great job weaving the Native American culture, customs, romance and beauty together. Justine and Darrius are characters the reader is able to relate too and love. The majority of the story takes place in New Mexico, along the famous Route 66, and the surrounding mountain ranges.

If you love a hot and sexy romance you will love Darrius and Justine's story

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed!, February 13, 2009

With all the good reviews this has received, I keep thinking that I got the wrong version of Red Sky! I had such high hopes for this book. My friend and I had been eagerly waiting for it to be released. Unfortunately, Red sky let me down. Darrius and Justine seemed to have no chemistry for the first 3/4 of the novel, but somehow they were in love. The writing didn't convey the chemistry they supposedly had. Also, the dialogue was over the top, and unrealistic (especially, the milk me line on page 113). A great deal of Darrius' dialogue seemed based on exagerated native american stereotypes. The earth, wind, and sky talk was overused.

Really the only part I somewhat enjoyed was the last 60 pages. It was like it was written by a different author. The author was able to articulate the chemsitry the characters had in the last few pages, but it was too late to save the book. It is so rare to have an African American woman and Native American man pairing, so I was disappointed that it was not done well. The author did a good job discussing parts of Native culture, but overused the stereotypes in the dialogue.

If you want to see real chemistry between a native man and a african american woman read Come with Me by J.S. Hawley, Seduction Westmoreland Style by Brenda Jackson, or some of the Francis Ray books. But, this...I cannot recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enchanting Love, April 8, 2009

This review is from: Red Sky (Indigo Love Spectrum) (Mass Market Paperback)
Justine Roberts-Paretti had the most exciting career of traveling around the country as a photojournalist. She put a lot of energy into her work and teaching children about art so she wouldn't think about her non-existing love life.

Justine's assignment was to photograph the annual Intertribal Indian Ceremonial in Gallup, New Mexico. She always displayed a deep interest in the Indian culture, of their arts and handicrafts and was looking forward to covering this assignment. Throughout her travels around the country on assignments, Justine always searched for a special bracelet she wanted and at last her search ended at Red Sky Jewelers.

When Darrius Red Sky, owner of Red Sky Jewelers first saw Justine it was in his dreams. He knows the spirit of the Indians brought her to his store and she was more beautiful in person than in his dreams. When their eyes met, it was love at first sight. Justine found the bracelet she's been searching for and a man that will love her unconditionally.

Darrius enjoyed Justine's passion in learning the Indian culture, that he became her personal guide. Each moment they were together the fire within them grew stronger and stronger. However they both were cautious due to bad past relationships. But the burning desire and hunger was stronger than the both of them and the nights of heated passions began

I enjoyed reading RED SKY. The author use of colorful descriptive words, made it easy for me to imagine the characters, places and events that took place in the book. The love scenes were tender and written with taste. The only minor drawback was the story was too long, but it didn't deter me from finishing the book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Horrified, February 9, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Red Sky (Indigo Love Spectrum) (Mass Market Paperback)
I was absolutely looking forward to this book. Finding BW/NAM characters is rare. And, it had a good review on romanceincolor.com. But, having read the book, I must say I am quite horrified.

The characters were not fleshed out at all. It was very hard to get a sense of who Justine was or who Darius was. I believe it was the lack of attention given to character development that drained any chance of chemistry that there might have been between them.

When not puzzled by the constant contradictions that would come out of the characters mouths, I was horrified by the very stilted language. Who uses the word "cad" in a contemporary romance? Even more horrifying was the dialogue between the characters as they are having sex. Huh? No one, no matter how spiritual or high on "love tea" would talk that way.

What is redeeming about this book? Well, I think it is admirable that the author tackled a rare coupling. It is just unfortunate that it is so poorly executed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Red sky at night not a delight, November 24, 2009
This review is from: Red Sky (Indigo Love Spectrum) (Mass Market Paperback)
There is a saying 'Red sky at night, shepherd's delight', well I doubt any shepherds or anyone else will find this tale delightful. I'm on chapter 17 with ten more to go and I'm struggling. The premise is good, black photographer goes to New Mexico on assignment and falls in love with Native American (Hopi) businessman/cultural dancer but the dialogue between the two is extremely corny, the love scenes are well written but the whole affair is hard to believe. For the description of Hopi culture I give it an 8, love scenes a 7 but for the love story a measly 1. I have read this author before (A Taste of temptation) and should have learned from that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Caught Up In Red Sky, August 7, 2009
This review is from: Red Sky (Indigo Love Spectrum) (Mass Market Paperback)
I absolutely LOVED this book, from the first page I was unable to put it down! I loved the exploration of Justine and Darrius' relationship and overall Alexis does a great job of pulling you in and making you a part of the novel. This book is filled with passion, history, culture, love, thrills, heartbreak and pure joy. Furthermore it was filled with hot, sizzling, raw passion with a wonderful mix of romance and legend. I honestly can say that this is the first book in three years that has made me actually cry. You won't want to put this book down!

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed the Native American Culture and History, April 7, 2009
By
This review is from: Red Sky (Indigo Love Spectrum) (Mass Market Paperback)
I read Red Sky after reading the reviews here. I actually enjoyed the Native American Culture and History in the book.

The one problem I had with the story is that the heroine liked the hero a little TOO much through the first 3/4ths of the book. I like romances where the heroine is a little more cautious and reluctant at the outset so that when she finally falls for the hero there's much more of an impact. The conflict is what creates the chemistry.

Still overall this was a good read. I'm going to look up other titles by the author.

5.0 out of 5 stars R's Goods, February 16, 2009
This review is from: Red Sky (Indigo Love Spectrum) (Mass Market Paperback)
I thought it was a fantastic book. The author did a good job bringing characters to life and making them seem so real. This proves that sometimes, love doesn't have to take long to happen; and OMG! The love scenes--they're super hot and so realistic. Erotic--a trademark of Ms. Alexis! As for the cultural aspect of the novel--it was depicted in a way that I could actually see what Ms. Alexis was talking about. Darrius is a dream for any woman and Justine is, though inquisitive, very enchanting. Ms. Alexis did a magnificent job and I'm anxiously awaiting her new releases. Aspects of the Native American culture are brought out in a vivid way and I think it does great justice to the native heritage. I certainly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romance that's not just the everyday ho-hum. Aren't there enough of those out there? Red Sky is sure to please and I'm a forever fan!

1.0 out of 5 stars trash, August 9, 2010
This review is from: Red Sky (Indigo Love Spectrum) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was little more than a trashy supermarket romance novel with very little depth in character and plot developments. Everything is too perfect with very little to no conflict between the two main characters throughout most of the book. The only saving grace is the beautiful descriptions of the New Mexico desert land.

Should have known this book would be bad after reading the blatant typo on the back cover.
