5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth it
This EP contains two really good B-sides from Vheissu (Flags of Dawn and The Weight of Glory) and live versions of Red Sky, Under A Killing Moon, Of Dust and Nations, and For Miles. The live versions are softer renditions of these songs, and it really changes the dynamic of the songs and I think Dustin does a fantastic job on them.

As for the two B-Sides, I...

3.0 out of 5 stars Thrice - Red Sky EP Review
Recently, I've been digging into the history of some of my favorite bands (Thrice being one of them), searching discographies & seeing if there were any releases that may have slipped by me throughout the years. This EP contains two really good B-sides from Vheissu (Flags of Dawn and The Weight of Glory) and live versions of Red Sky, Under A Killing Moon, Of Dust and Nations, and For Miles. As for the two B-Sides, I really don't understand why they weren't put on the album. Thrice is my favorite band and Vheissu is their best album talent-wise, but there are a few songs on there I would easily trade for these two. Great songs.

If you've liked any of the Thrice albums, especially Vheissu, this is definitely an ideal pick up for you. If you've been a fan all along, this is a no-brainer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have for any Thrice fan, April 20, 2006

Only 6 songs, but it's great. I can't believe "Flags of Dawn" and "Weight of Glory" where kept off of Vheissu - they are absolutely incredible songs.

The other 4 songs aren't new, but they ARE new versions of them. The only one I had heard before was "Of Dust and Nations," which was from AOL Sessions. The rest are awesome acoustic versions of the originals. "Under Killing Moon" was especially interesting to hear since the original is so heavy.

Maybe it will be released in the US soon so you can avoid the hefty import price-tag. However, die-hards shouldn't have a problem shelling out the cash for it. If you love Thrice, its worth it.

As with any CD bought online, it seems that half the time they come with the case cracked or broken. The coin landed on the broken/cracked side this time. Other than that it still has the best song ever recorded on it. No scratches or anything to impede me from enjoying it to the fullest; Which is what I wanted.

3.0 out of 5 stars Thrice - Red Sky EP Review, June 8, 2010

Recently, I've been digging into the history of some of my favorite bands (Thrice being one of them), searching discographies & seeing if there were any releases that may have slipped by me throughout the years. I came across this "Red Sky" EP, which was released alongside their last LP with Island Records, "Vheissu". I immediately wanted to pick it up for my collection, & I enventually did so. I thought the disc would be full of B-sides & unreleased cuts from the "Vheissu" album, which had me excited, thinking it would make my collection more complete. Then the cd arrived, & I noticed the disc unfortunately only had two unreleased songs, "Flags of Dawn" & "Weight of Glory" (which sound phenomenal in their own right), with the rest of the tracklist comprising of live renditions of songs from "Vheissu" ("Under A Killing Moon", "For Miles", "Red Sky", & "Of Dust & Nations"). I realize I could've looked for the cd on Wikipedia to learn about the tracklisting beforehand, but I didn't want to spoil the surprise of any hidden gems that may have been put on the cd (I will not make that mistaken again). While the cd is an enjoyable listen and definitely worth the price, I would only recommend it for people trying to establish a comprehensive Thrice collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars "We'll raise an empire", September 30, 2007
This review is from: Red Sky (Audio CD)
Okay, I can't tell you it's worth buying this for eighteen bucks (I got it here when it was on a good discount). However, for a fan of Vheissu this should come off as a treat that it is. You get two of the three B-sides released ("Lullaby" is on the sixth Hopelessly Devoted comp.). The tracks are great, especially the second track. It shows some of the band's great skills and lyrics and is a nice addition to the band's back catalog.

Then there are four acoustic tracks, one already released, three not. There's "Of Dust and Nations" from the three-track AOL sessions disc and then you get an acoustic version of the fairly heavy "Under a Killing Moon," which is a nice addition. "Red Sky" is also slightly reworked on here. I prefer the more passionate and melodic singing of the original although this folk-ish version is pretty good in its own right, a difference from the textured album version. "For Miles" is not a miss either; it's a great song in its own right. It has almost a dreamy feel on this album.

I recommend this to people into the band's recent output who would like to grow their Thrice collections.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great accompaniment to Vheissu, March 25, 2007
This review is from: Red Sky (Audio CD)
The first two tracks on this EP are amazing B-Sides to the album Vheissu, that for the life of me I can't figure why they were left off in the first place. They are brilliant. Also the following acoustic versions of three songs give them a new light, especially the very stripped down "Under a Killing Moon". This is a definite recommendation to fans of Thrice.

I had already downloaded the songs on this record before it came out, but still bought it regardless.

If you're a diehard Thrice fan. This is a "must have".
