5.0 out of 5 stars A bold, new, FEMALE warrior is upon us!, November 15, 1999
This is a refreshing book for those who are tired of the same old cliche' in fantasy novels ( strong muscle bound oaf takes on the world). It centers on a beautiful, flame tressed woman who happens to be intelligent( heaven forbid!) She is one Red Sonja and she is fantastic reading. Check this out, you won't be dissapointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars If you like Xena, why not try Red Sonja?, October 6, 1998
By A Customer
Red Sonja, like the more famous Xena, is a female warrior who travels the world in search of adventure. This character made her first appearence as a supporting player in the Conan the Barbarian comics. She quickly made the grade and was spun off into her own comics, and then a novel series, this being the first of said series. In this novel, Red Sonja joins good King Olin on his quest to destroy the evil sorcerer(is there any other kind?)who destroyed his city. To kill the sorcerer, they must first possess the fabled ring of Ikribu. While on their quest, they are confronted with zombies, black magic, and traitors. All of this is standard fare in sword and sorcery stories, but, it's alot of fun to see the lead character being a strong intelligent female as opposed to the usual muscular clod. As an extra bonus, readers are treated to a truley gorgeous cover courtesy of renowned fantasy artist Borris. The only problem readers will have is finding a copy of this book. It is long out of print and may not be available in local used bookstores or libraries. However, if you go to the trouble of finding a copy, you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars FROM BACK COVER, April 13, 2008

Avid Reader "Jim" (Columbus, Ohio USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Red Sonja #1: The Ring of Ikribu (Paperback)
She lived in a savage world in an uncivilized age - a world ruled by men and governed by the sword. They called her Red Sonja - for her flame-red hair, for the smoldering fire of her pride which gave her sword-arm a strength that few men could match and none had ever defeated.

In the very lands where Conan the Cimmerian wielded his powerful blade, this beautiful and deadly warrior -maid traversed the Hyborian kingdoms with her sword for hire. Lured by the promise of riches and adventure, Red Sonja is drawn into war between a city of doomed mortals and the awesome ambitions of a centuries-dead sorcerer in a quest for the primal, untamable power forged into a ring of gold...
