Editorial Reviews

Review

"...compulsively engaging. The story's key antagonist grandstands like a true Bond villain...an engrossing page-turner...Luna's penchant for plot twists provide an ultimately satisfying read." --Kirkus Indie Review

I was a little less than halfway through Red Storm before bed last night. I read until midnight even though I had to work in the morning. Just one more chapter, one more crisis I told myself.
Then one more.
And another.
Didn't stop until I finished the story in the wee hours of the morning. Couldn't put it down. The plot moves quickly and smartly, and the climax which reveals why our hero had to go through all that crisis was both imaginative and unexpected.
While the story and pace are excellent Luna falls into a few traps all too common for most first-time authors. The writing style is a bit uneven and the characters sometimes come across one-dimensional. But the story rules the day and this is a fun and frenetic read that's perfect for a day at the beach or an evening before bed. Warning, though, it's liable to keep you turning pages past the midnight hour.

I haven't stayed up so late reading a book in ages! Each chapter propels you into the next... I couldn't put it down! Every time I started to predict a science fiction cliché was coming, the author turned it on its head with twists and surprises to delight even a jaded sci-fi fan like me! The science and "techno-speak" are meticulous but presented in such a matter-of-fact style that you feel like you're there on Mars! A great read that I highly recommend!

Red Storm is a taught science fiction mystery and a real page-turner. Frank Luna has created a compelling novel set in the not too distant future, where manned spaced exploration of Mars is a reality. Strong, well-developed characters make this a great book for all readers, not just fans of science fiction.

Right from the beginning Red Storm had me hooked. And before that hook could taper off, another crisis or story element had me eager to flip to the next chapter.

The book had just the right amount of science fiction. It was set just far enough into the future that it felt believable, the technology made sense, and the characters felt like pioneers on the verge of a new frontier. A part of me was slightly hesitant. The idea of mankind exploring Mars is fascinating to me but would I anticipate where the story might take me? That hesitation was quickly forgotten because right when I thought I knew what to expect I'd get a good little dose of uniqueness.

My only complaint of the book was that it felt too short. I liked the story and characters but I wanted more. That's not to say that the story or characters felt rushed, not at all. The book had enough details to get me immersed and progressed quickly. But from my own perspective, I would have enjoyed it even more had the story lingered just a bit longer at certain points.

Overall I have to hand it to Mr. Luna, you nailed it and this was a fun read. I sincerely hope you make a another book (preferably where this one left off!) as I'd enjoy making the purchase. Thank you for the letting me escape into the Red Storm.

I enjoyed this novel. The author had me on edge, wondering about the fate of the Earth and it's inhabitants. The characters were well developed and I would recommend this to any Sci Fi fan.

In spite of some small science inaccuracies it was a very enjoyable read with a mystery that kept the pages turning. Often with this type of book I figure it all out early and get bored or the mystery revealed is poorly written or weak. Not so in this case it kept me speculating and once revealed made sense. Further though some of the characters are not very deep and a little one dimensional the main character is deep enough to connect with.
